Education apps are becoming more popular with every academic year. Considering that ever-greater numbers of secondary students are entering the third-level environment having experienced an iPad as their main learning mechanism, it’s clear that students will now expect a similarly ‘smart’ experience. As the number of smartphones among the college population also continues to grow, academia needs to work to connect with students through this medium. Evidence from the literature indicates that learners often view feedback in terms of assessment only, even though it can play an important role in improving engagement and consolidating and enriching learning. In a study of 55 electrical engineering students, Yadav, et al., found learning gains among students in Project-Based Learning (PBL) to be twice the gains of those taking traditional lecture courses. Du and Kolmos indicate groupbased PBL is more supportive and appealing to women than traditional lecture formats. Savin-Baden posits that female and minority students are more likely to ask questions in non-competitive PBL environments. The aim of this study was to investigate the views of staff to on-campus catering in a large third level educational institution. There was a response rate of 68% from all categories of staff.
