This study examines the life skills practiced and acquired by student employees who were nominated for the Student Employee of the Year award at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University between the 2001-2002 and 2007- 2008 academic years. Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder And The Iep Process: An Examination Of Parents' Perceptions, Donna E. Stromquist

Culminating Projects in Special Education

Current research addresses the importance of information exchange and trust between medical professionals and parents of children with autism, but relationships between special educators and parents are often overlooked. Special educators, specifically case managers of children with autism, need to have an understanding of a parent’s viewpoint regarding their child’s autism. Unlike some other medical or cognitive disability categories, autism spectrum disorder is unique in its extreme variety of how mildly or severely impaired a child may be. Through interviews with four parents of children with autism, this thesis explored the experiences that parents had in the Individualized Education Plan …

Interruptions In Small Group Learning Settings With Non-Native English Speakers And Native English Speakers In An Esl And Culture Classroom, Jill Suresh

Culminating Projects in TESL

As many English language learners (ELLs) enter mainstream classes, they will begin interacting with native English speakers (NESs) in small group learning settings. This thesis examines the interactions between NESs and non-native English speakers (NNESs) working on small group learning assignments during an ESL and Culture class.

The study focuses on types of interruptions that the participants use to communicate. The three categories that students' verbal exchanges were separated into are non-interruptive, cooperatively interruptive and intrusively interruptive. Using this data along with a questionnaire, the interactions between NESs and NNESs in a small group environment are analyzed as they relate …

Impact Of Intellectual Property Contract Language On University-Industry Research Consortia, Michael J. Olesen

Culminating Projects in Higher Education Administration

Interactions and collaborations between research universities and industry have a potential to provide significant benefits to both. For universities, these interactions and collaborations can bring additional revenues through license fees or additional research funds, promote economic development in their community, test the practical application of their research, allow for the input of industry on the research, create internships and employment opportunities for students, and-in general-further the research, education, and outreach aspects of their mission. For industry, university interactions and collaborations offer the potential of access to intellectual property (IP) to commercialize, research results that can shape their research and development …

Effects Of Gender On The Career Aspirations Of Administrators In The Minnesota State Colleges And Universities System, Christine C. Lepkowski May 2008

Effects Of Gender On The Career Aspirations Of Administrators In The Minnesota State Colleges And Universities System, Christine C. Lepkowski

Culminating Projects in Higher Education Administration

A recent national survey found women hold only 23% of higher education institution presidencies (American Council on Education, 2007). However, women now earn 58% of all bachelor’s degrees and 4% of all doctorates (U.S. Department of Education, 2005). These findings suggest something may be interfering with the pool of capable women moving through the pipeline to attain higher education administrative positions. Gender differences in career aspirations have been suggested as one potential reason for this disparity.

This study examined the career aspirations of women and men holding administrative positions of dean or higher (excluding presidents) within the institutions in the …

Establishing Behavior Chains As Staff Training, Nathan G. Searle May 2008

Establishing Behavior Chains As Staff Training, Nathan G. Searle

Culminating Projects in Education Administration and Leadership

Behavior chains are widely used for individuals with developmental disabilities and chaining has been successfully applied to establish a variety of skills for individuals with developmentally disabilities (Hagopian, Paclawskyj, & Contrucci Kuhn, 2005). Contrary to wide application of behavior chains with individuals with developmental disabilities, little application has been researched in areas of staff training. One exception was the van den Pol, Reid, and Fuqua (1983) study that demonstrated the effectiveness of establishing behavior chains of three task analyses in a peer training model. The present study examined the effectiveness of behavior chains as a staff training technique and compared …
