The National Park Service (NPS) Advisory Board Education Committee was charged with identifying areas that would improve life-long learning in the NPS. In this session, we will present three components of a project looking at family learning in free-choice settings that emerged from this request. The components will include: a literature review developed for the NPS; complementary involvement of NPS personnel in reviewing literature and their voices; and a look at novices and experts in interpretation and research and their roles in crowd-sourced research. The presentations will be followed by round-table discussions, where participants will explore the ideas further.

In addition to the lesson itself, the presentation sequence of grammatical items as in the grammar syllabus can also influence how well students respond. The fieldwork was carried out on a wide selection of professors at the following European universities: Freie Universität and Humboldt Universität in Germany, and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Spain, from March 2013 to August 2013.

Research on fraternity men focuses almost exclusively on problematic behaviors such as homophobia and sexism, alcohol abuse, violence against women, sexual promiscuity, and the overrepresentation of members among campus judicial offenders. Consequently, little is known about those who perform masculinities in healthy and productive ways. Presented in this article are findings from a qualitative study of productive masculinities and behaviors among 50 undergraduate fraternity men from 44 chapters across the U.S. and Canada. Findings offer insights into participants’ steadfast commitments to the fraternity’s espoused values; their acceptance and appreciation of members from a range of diverse backgrounds; strategies they employed …

The Mobile Learning Initiative (MoLI) works with faculty members on exploring and designing mobile solutions. A communications faculty member contacted our Mobile Learning Initiative (MoLI) group to explore using a mobile solution for a class activity where students would be able upload images, text, and audio from around the city and display it on a map where others could search and filter the results. This presentation describes how the library and the Graduate School at the University of Kentucky collaborated to streamline the thesis and dissertation submission process. The outcome was that the Graduate School implemented an electronic thesis and dissertation mandate in Fall 2013 and students now submit their theses or dissertations directly to the institutional repository, which enables immediate free online access to their research.

During the last several decades, research concerning the developmental trajectories, experiences, and behaviors of college men as ‘‘gendered’’ persons has emerged. In this article, we first critically review literature on Black men’s gender development and expressions within college contexts to highlight certain knowledge gaps. We then conceptualize and discuss progressive Black masculinities by relying on Mutua’s germinal work on the subject. Further, we engage Black feminist scholarship, both to firmly situate our more pressing argument for conceptual innovation and to address knowledge gaps in the literature on Black men’s gender experiences. This research is a cross-site analysis of how white, male, college students see their Asian American peers. Semi-structured interviews with 43 white males were conducted at two universities that differed substantially in their representation of Asian American students. The interviews were theoretically framed by Critical Whiteness Studies and Bobo and Tuan’s conception of prejudice as group positioning. At the institution where Asian American population was higher (almost 1/3 of the undergraduate population), the participants described Asian Americans as not true minorities and blamed them for campus segregation, while also subscribing to many racial stereotypes about Asian Americans (e.g., being bad …
