Third year Business students were required to evaluate their experiential consumption of a sporting activity using Holt’s taxonomy. The aim of this paper is to explore the benefits derived from using photos as a mirror; firstly to capture the data and provide validity to the activity; and, secondly as a tool to encourage reflective learning. The literature addresses issues and examples focusing on visual methods as a means of data capture in qualitative research. After testing and using multiple assessment surveys and tools over time to evaluate student learning after and satisfaction with library instruction, workshop attendees discussed lessons learned by an academic librarian attempting to develop a more effective culture of assessment for library instruction. The following was addressed:
- various surveys and tools used/tested
- why certain surveys and tools were selected for use and not others
- why certain surveys and tools worked better than others
- what were the lessons learned
- what assessment surveys and tools are being used after the lessons learned

Mobile learning was an embedded component of the pedagogical design of an undergraduate course, Digital media and society. In the final semester of 2010 and the first semester of 2011, 135 students participated in an empirical study inquiring into their perceptual experience of mobile learning. To control for access to technology, an optional iPad student loan scheme was used. The iPads were loaded with an electronic textbook and a mobile application of the learning moderation system. Eighty students participated in ten-person focus groups. Feedback on mobility and the electronic text was positive and optimistic. However, the majority of students were …
