Children’s dreams often depict waking life events and experiences. Although dream work therapy for adults is fairly established, recommendations for processing children’s dreams appear fractional. Because of the distinct developmental needs of children, we postulated that sandtray therapy might assist children to express and discover enlarged meanings in dreams. In this article, we present the Sandtray for Interpreting Childhood Dreams (SICD) intervention for the purpose of potentially helping children gain insight into how their dreams may be related to past and present waking life experiences. Broadening multicultural competency through social advocacy is becoming increasingly important in the field of counseling. Despite calls for understanding diverse cultural constructs, there have been relatively few calls for understanding the role poverty and social class plays in counseling and supervision. Attendees will learn how to incorporate mindfulness-based relationship practices into clinical supervision. Through present awareness and thoughtful attention to intentionality, mindfulness-based practices can lead to strengthened relationships, increased problem-solving skills, greater acceptance of self and others, and increased mutual empathy. Research In Counseling: A 10-Year Review To Inform Practice, Dee Ray, Darrell Hull, Andi Hacker, Laura Pace, Karrie Swan, Sarah Carlson, Jeffrey Sullivan

This study reviewed 4,457 articles from 1998 to 2007 in American Counseling Association division-affiliated journals to identify research articles published in counseling; 1,139 articles (25.6%) were quantitatively research based. The authors provide details related to quantitative research publications, including individual journal contribution to the research base, focus areas for research, and independent and dependent variables highlighted by researchers. One summary finding was that only 6% of counseling research articles explored effectiveness of counseling interventions.
