Investigating The Impact Of Cad Simulations On Student Design Thinking, Manaz R. Taleyarkhan Aug 2016

Investigating The Impact Of Cad Simulations On Student Design Thinking, Manaz R. Taleyarkhan

Open Access Theses

Facilitating students to become informed designers is a goal in engineering education that has been proposed by multiple studies. The use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software has been used as a learning tool to promote design thinking in practical settings for undergraduate students. However, very little is known about the informed design process undertaken by these students while using the interactive and learning focused CAD tool to solve design challenges. This paper analyzes the nature of design thinking that happens when students use a particular CAD tool. In this study, I have adapted Crismond and Adams' Informed Design Teaching and …

A Qualitative Study On How Health Professional Students And Their Pbl Facilitators Perceive The Use Of Mobile Devices During Pbl, Lap Ki Chan, Susan M. Bridges, Iain Doherty, Manwa L. Ng, Jun Jin, Neel Sharma, Nam Kiu Chan, Henrietta Yan Yu Lai Apr 2015

A Qualitative Study On How Health Professional Students And Their Pbl Facilitators Perceive The Use Of Mobile Devices During Pbl, Lap Ki Chan, Susan M. Bridges, Iain Doherty, Manwa L. Ng, Jun Jin, Neel Sharma, Nam Kiu Chan, Henrietta Yan Yu Lai

Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-Based Learning

Mobile devices are increasingly being used by undergraduate students to access online information in the problem-based learning (PBL) process, initially in the self-directed phase, and more recently within face-to-face tutorials. This qualitative study across three undergraduate health professional programs used semi-structured interviews to investigate facilitators’ and students’ perceptions of mobile device usage in PBL tutorials. Transcribed interviews were analyzed thematically, drawing on the principles of grounded theory. Implications for future practice were identified. Students perceived that mobile devices are useful and convenient for instant access to various sources of information, for note taking, and for visually sharing their research and …

Assessment Of The Learning Climate, Basic Psychological Needs And Perceived Knowledge Transfer In An Active Classroom, Sanjana Hemanth Apr 2015

Assessment Of The Learning Climate, Basic Psychological Needs And Perceived Knowledge Transfer In An Active Classroom, Sanjana Hemanth

Open Access Theses

he thesis analyzes the impact of introducing active learning components by measuring the learning climate, basic psychological needs and perceived knowledge transfer of one course. This thesis has utilized the data obtained by the IMPACT team to evaluate the learning climate of the classroom with the evolution of the course by measuring the cognitive presence, learning presence and teaching presence in each of the semesters. The results of this study show the impact of the different elements of active learning in a classroom. The study of data over three semesters for one class is a model for other large intake …

Adult Learners' Perceptions Of Mooc Motivation, Success, And Completion: A Virtual Ethnographic Study, Jamie Lynn Loizzo Apr 2015

Adult Learners' Perceptions Of Mooc Motivation, Success, And Completion: A Virtual Ethnographic Study, Jamie Lynn Loizzo

Open Access Dissertations

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have been credited with disrupting the traditional classroom and challenging distance education models in higher education. MOOCs were developed with the intention of opening up education to the masses, specifically those in developing countries who could not readily access educational resources or opportunities. However, early quantitative reports have shown that MOOC participants tend to be adult learners who already possess bachelor's or master's degrees. Additionally, MOOC completion rates have been reported to be significantly low with less than 15% of enrolled students actually completing them. This has led to questions about who the true target …

Redesigning Instruction To Create Systematic Change: A Designer’S Perspective, Debra D. Runshe Nov 2014

Redesigning Instruction To Create Systematic Change: A Designer’S Perspective, Debra D. Runshe

Teaching and Learning Technologies Presentations

Instruction Matters Purdue Academic Course Transformation (IMPACT) is not only a successful course redesign program but it also fosters institutional change through collaboration between faculty and support units campus-wide. Faculty participate in a structured faculty development program and are further supported in their redesign process by a team of staff members from multiple units across campus, including the Libraries, the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE), Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP), and Purdue Distance Education (PEC).
