Incivility As A Barrier To Embeddedness Among Engineering Students: Does Gender Matter?, Katelyn R. Reynoldson
Incivility As A Barrier To Embeddedness Among Engineering Students: Does Gender Matter?, Katelyn R. Reynoldson
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
To meet the current demand for engineers, research has focused on how to attract and retain qualified candidates in the field, especially those that are underrepresented (e.g., women; NSB, 2016). The present study investigates incivility and embeddedness, which have been found to be antecedents of retention in both the workplace (Cortina, Magley, Williams, & Langhout, 2001; Mitchell, Holtom, Lee, Sablynski, & Erez, 2001) and the collegiate setting (Caza & Cortina, 2007; Major et al., 2015). To extend previous research, both constructs were examined simultaneously among undergraduate engineering students. Undergraduate, first-year engineers completed an online survey indicating the extent to which …
Engineering Design: A Cognitive Process Approach, Greg Joseph Strimel
Engineering Design: A Cognitive Process Approach, Greg Joseph Strimel
STEMPS Theses & Dissertations
The intent of this dissertation was to identify the cognitive processes used by advanced pre-engineering students to solve complex engineering design problems. Students in technology and engineering education classrooms are often taught to use an ideal engineering design process that has been generated mostly by educators and curriculum developers. However, the review of literature showed that it is unclear as to how advanced pre-engineering students cognitively navigate solving a complex and multifaceted problem from beginning to end. Additionally, it was unclear how a student thinks and acts throughout their design process and how this affects the viability of their solution. …
High School Engineering/Technology Education Course Impact On Georgia Standardized Achievement Scores, Rodney N. Ragsdale
High School Engineering/Technology Education Course Impact On Georgia Standardized Achievement Scores, Rodney N. Ragsdale
STEMPS Theses & Dissertations
This research explores whether a student completing a two course sequence in engineering/technology education is more successful on the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) assessments in mathematics, science, social studies, and English/language arts. The findings provide additional insight into whether the current focus on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) could also improve student achievement in core academic areas. Student data were provided through the Georgia Department of Education database, from all public high schools in Georgia where engineering/technology education courses are taught. The school sizes ranged from the largest schools in the state (student population greater than …
Old Dominion University's Engineering Summer Camp's Effect On Students Interest In Engineering, Clair Dorsey
Old Dominion University's Engineering Summer Camp's Effect On Students Interest In Engineering, Clair Dorsey
OTS Master's Level Projects & Papers
The problem of this study was to determine parents' perceptions of their child's experience in Old Dominion University's engineering summer camps to determine if their child generated an interest in engineering as a career choice.
The Relationship Between Afloat Training Group Norfolk Levels Of Effectiveness To Formal Assessment/Inspections As A Predictor Of Atlantic Fleet Shipboard Engineering Readiness, Juan D. Marpuri Jr.
The Relationship Between Afloat Training Group Norfolk Levels Of Effectiveness To Formal Assessment/Inspections As A Predictor Of Atlantic Fleet Shipboard Engineering Readiness, Juan D. Marpuri Jr.
OTS Master's Level Projects & Papers
This research will determine if the changes made as a result of IDTC initiatives have contributed to the levels of training effectiveness and ultimately the afloat commands ability to demonstrate engineering readiness.
