Studies indicate that school-community partnerships have positive impacts on the learners and reducing the educational achievement gap is one of the identified benefits. This study sought to examine the development of educational partnerships from the perspective of the teachers. The researcher assumed that teachers play a significant role in the formation and continuation of the partnerships, thereby influencing their success. Consequently, this study sought to explore teachers’ experiences with educational partnerships regarding improving academic performance and reducing achievement gaps.

This practicum describes a reading program that was developed and implemented by the author to improve attitudes toward leisure-time reading with an increased book involvement among elementary students. A target group of 30 students in a fourth grade self-contained class was established for the program. The program contained three basic strategies for improving attitudes toward leisure-time reading with an increased book involvement; read aloud session conducted by teachers, parents, and other adults; daily sustained silent reading periods; and the keeping of a student reading log. The program involved the development of materials for the instruction and testing of geography related performance standards to the American History curriculum. The program’s aim were twofold: 1) to assist the teacher in that materials were not available and 2) to address the problem of low achievement of the students in their basic geographical knowledge and its application to American History. The problems addressed by this practicum were identified by both teacher questionnaire and student pre-tests. The author developed a program to aid regular classroom teachers in development of lesson plans for substitute teachers and to assist the substitute teachers in the implementation of those plans. The program's objectives were to improve substitutes' performance, to have substitutes follow teacher's lesson and and leave summaries of their classroom activities for the regular teacher. The strategy was directed to the administrators, the classroom teachers and the substitutes. A sequentially planned program using Quality Circle Techniques, adapted to the educational environment was implemented in an elementary school in Central Florida. The program consisted of ten sessions designed to acquaint the team leaders and administrators with the Quality Circle Techniques and, under the direction of a trained facilitator, developed and practiced the skills. The sessions included activities on brainstorming, concensus, cause and effect diagrams, group functions, data collection techniques and management presentations. The pre,post attitudinal survey showed a positive gain for all participants. Cognitive quizes during the sessions produced an average retention of 96.6%. These results were further strengthened …

The program's aims were to reduce and retrieve lost library books that were reported on the inventory check and to make students, parents, and teachers aware of the problems and the importance of being responsible library users.
