A semester elective fine arts course for junior high students in speech, drama, and communications was designed and implemented by the author for a private Christian day school in a metropolitan Florida city. The school serves 630 students in grades kindergarten-four through nine. The project's goals were to expand the school's fine arts program, to address the personal needs of the adolescent, and to increase the interactions between the school's junior high and primary and elementary students. Improvement Of Cafeteria Behavior Through The Use Of Behavior Modification, Joseph S. Ronca

The practicum was entitled “Improvement of Cafeteria Behavior Through the Use of Behavior Modification”. The setting was an elementary school consisting of kindergarten through sixth grade. Previous methods for controlling lunchroom behaviors were not effective. By setting up a behavior modification system in which appropriate behavior was reinforced, the noise level was controlled and at least 60% of the class earned the opportunity to receive a weekly reward for following cafeteria rules. Furthermore, the project was successful enough that he faulty and administration wished for it to be an ongoing program.

Creative Approaches To Vocabulary Enrichment In Fourth Grade Students Through Semantic Analysis, Jeannine G. Counts

This practicum report focuses on an enrichment strategy designed and implemented by the author to increase the vocabulary of accelerated fourth grade students. There were two criteria to be met by members of the target selection. First, they had to excel in language arts as indicated by superior test scores on the county reading test. Secondly, each participant had language arts grades of excellent status as evaluated by the previous instructor. The aim of the strategy was to present similarities and dissimilarities of target words and affect positive changes in the students' performances and attitudes toward their creatively written expressions. …

The writer developed and implemented a program that would improve the eighth grade girls' cardiovascular scores with aerobics. The practicum setting was a junior high school located in a southern urban metropolitan area. The program's aims helped the eighth grade girls to improve their cardiovascular fitness, to adapt to stress, have a good self-image, and. to improve their physical being. They were made aware of the fact that regular exercise had many mental benefits. The program began with the testing of the girls in the 12-minute run. Tenth grade students in two English Honors classes were given direct instruction on sentence combining. The goal of the program was to increase the syntactic complexity of student writing, to have them express more in each sentence. Instruction was approached from different aspects. The students worked with two textbooks on sentence combining. They worked with sentences from the newspaper and a magazine. There were lessons in sentence combining as a means to understanding the style of two authors. Sentences combining was used as a means to encourage substantial revision of essays. Graduate students were given the opportunity to become involved in a teacher training program as a practicum experience toward advanced degrees in elementary education, learning disabilities, emotional handicaps or reading. The major focus of the practicum dealt with the training and supervision of practicum students in utilizing precision teaching to instruct children (grades K-6) within the framework of a specialized program. The aims were to increase teachers' repertoires of instructional methods, behavioral management techniques, and to develop a training manual to have teachers utilize precision teaching. The author developed and implemented a Law Education Unit in a metropolitan high school setting to promote the knowledge of law and the legal system of 130 high school seniors. The unit’s sims were to enable the student to identify sources of law, to describe how our legal system work and how individual rights and obligations are interrelated, to describe the consequences to the individual and society of disobeying the law and the personal and social values of obeying it, to define legal concepts, and to identify important Supreme Court decisions. The author researched and adapted ways to promote responsibility for library books. The program's aims were to reduce and retrieve lost library books that were reported on the inventory check and to make students, parents, and teachers aware of the problems and the importance of being responsible library users. The author identified students with a right brain dominance through surveys and questionnaires. These students' past academic records were scrutinized and on the basis of repetitive low test scores, poor social and scholastic achievement and a pattern of apathetic behavior, a target group of five students was compiled for this study. Based on their mode dominance, a series of teaching strategies were created to strengthen the dominant mode and stretch the subdominant mode. Increasing The Mathematics Performance Of Learning Disabled Children Through Self-Monitoring Of Attention Span, Geraldine B. Newton

A program to self-monitor attention spans for learning disabled students in grades three through six was implemented to aid them in remaining on task while in math class. A recorded “beeper” was set up to remind students to stay on task. Students marked a checksheet to indicate whether or not they were on task when the “beep” went off. The program’s aims were to help the students increase his mathematics performance as demonstrated by an increase of achievement on the math section of the Wide Range Achievement Test.
