In 1989, President George Bush. and the Nation's fifty governors, held a historic education summit that culminated in the adoption of six National Education Goals. These six broad goals were intended to serve as a framework for future reform efforts. The sixth goal of the United States' National Educational Goals states:

This collection is composed of one scrapbook and several folders of materials related to the Huntington High School commemoration of Mae Newman’s retirement as principal. The collection is substantially composed of correspondence to Newman on this event as well as a wooden scrapbook featuring a significant number of images from her tenure as principal, estimated between 1957 and 1963. Photographs document student life and faculty life at Huntington High School.
