Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students
Graduate student orientation is a time filled with a fire hose of information coming at students transitioning to new communities, new studies and trying to keep it all under control. In partnership with subject-area librarians and the graduate school administration, My colleague Mark Robison (Political Science, Global Affairs) and I are designing a first-year graduate student outreach program that will connect incoming graduate students with their subject librarians to learn resources the Hesburgh Libraries offer along with the services they may not know are available.

Effective Collaborations In Multi-Campus And Online Environments Using Libguides, Rebecca Rose, Mary Ann Cullen, Sofia A. Slutskaya

The paper presents a series of case studies that describe and demonstrate successful collaborations created via partnerships with instructors, departments, and other groups in both multi-campus and online environments at Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) where all three authors worked together as librarians for five years. The case studies illustrate the use of LibGuides in building librarian-librarian and librarian-faculty partnerships to support teaching and other campus activities. This discussion includes successful strategies for establishing connections and adopting LibGuides as communication tool for collaborative projects.

The article reports on the partnership formed by the Coweta Public Library--Central Library with the Carrollton-based University of West Georgia's Ingram Library and Newnan Campus to enhance educational services within the community. The objective of the Central Library is to reflect on the importance of educating children and of providing access to materials and programs to people of all ages in support of lifelong learning. Its Book Bundles are another aspect of the public library of allowing its customers to be independent but provide the library staff an avenue of virtual engagement.
