Consultation is an essential part of a professional school counselor's job responsibilities - falling under system support and responsive services of the ASCA Model. Effective consultation can be used to support teachers and increase/influence student achievement. If a school counselor is going to develop and maintain a viable comprehensive school counseling program, consultation has to an integral part of their program. This presentation will discuss the importance of consultation and several consultation models.

The Kaleidoscope program is an early intervention program for students at-risk for school failure because of behavioral challenges. This presentation will highlight findings from a mixed method study exploring how the program functions, the types of services and supports it provides, and broad program outcomes. Implications are important for school professionals designing programs to address the needs of at-risk students.

The lack of parental support often found within the African American and Latino communities has often contributed to suspensions, expulsions, and truancy. This interactive seminar will provide participants with useful strategies that can be used to increase the level of parental involvement and also help parents understand the importance of their role in their children’s academic success.
