Background: Professional nurses spend more time with patients who are dying than any other health care professional. However, studies show that nurses feel unprepared, or unequipped, to provide adequate end-of-life (EOL) care to these patients, which has directed many organizations to dedicate resources to the development of effective EOL care education programs. According to a report by The Institute of Medicine, medical errors were associated with up to 98,000 deaths and more than 1 million injuries each year in the United States. These errors can result in poor outcomes, which increase harm or death. According to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System, up to 15% of errors reported cite automated dispensing cabinets as the source of the drug involved in the error.Nearly 58% to 70% of hospitals nationwide use automated dispensing cabinets. This inquiry explored one group of teachers' experiences in an innovative professional development opportunity, known as Book Talk, and its implications for understanding and defining professional development. This study further examined professional development and its relationship with the school's organizational structure. A qualitative, teacher research methodology, with a phenomenological orientation framed this inquiry Book Talk was a site-based, teacher-directed initiative designed to break isolation and develop collegiality among teachers. The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of active reflection on the self-perception of empowerment in the workplace. A model integrating reflection and psychological empowerment was developed. The developed model is based on Spreitzer's Model of Psychological Empowerment. The sample consisted of non-management knowledge workers at a software company in the Midwest that placed a high value on the continuous learning of its employees. A pretest, posttest control group design was used. The experimental group kept guided journals of their learning activities for three months.
