The purpose of this study was to examine impacts of explicit content-area vocabulary instruction on reading comprehension. Effective instructional strategies include multiple texts at students' instructional levels, highly qualified teachers, daily explicit vocabulary instruction combined with student's application of instruction and evolution of instruction as student's reading achievement increases.

The focus of this project is to use readers theatre to enhance the language arts skills of the low socio-economic student population and the Hispanic population in the classroom. The author created some of her own activities and incorporated them with readers theatre to increase the critical thinking skills of her students in order to score proficient and advance in the assessments used in this project.

The purpose of the study was twofold. First, it describes two research-based instructional strategies that have been effective in increasing reading comprehension (reciprocal teaching and using readers' response journals). Second, a quasi-experimental research design was created to determine the educational impact of these two strategies on the reading comprehension levels of elementary-aged English Language Learners (ELLs). The data was collected from a low socioeconomic elementary school, specifically looking at a second grade classroom. The classroom demographic included eighteen students, ten of which were English Language Learners. Both informal and formal assessments were used to determine growth across time. The overall …

This project examines the theories of guided imagery as a basis for a teaching strategy for developing a student's creativity, promoting learning by increasing concentration techniques and relaxing students. This study discusses how one first grade teacher used guided imagery with her students. The strategy was first used as a morning practice and later incorporated into the language arts program. The topics addressed in this project include: (a) What is guidedimagery?
