Problem. Information is needed regarding the reasons students attend Seventh-day Adventist higher education institutions, and how these reasons and students' characteristics relate to their decision to remain in college or withdraw.

Method. A study was made of freshmen entering Andrews University and Union College in autumn 1983. Survey and personal information were collected at the beginning and near the end of the school year. Students who withdrew during or after their freshmen year were identified. Problem. A report of the perceptions of the environment of an institution can be useful inassessing the effectiveness of that institution. This study assessed student and faculty perceptions of the religious environment of Andrews University, a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) school.

Method. An instrument developed for the study was administered to 350 randomly selected subjects in eight subsamples: non-SDA students, faculty, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, theological seminary students, and other graduate students. Problem. The ratio of female to male educational administrators is considerably lower than the ratio for teachers. This study investigated the attitudes of male administrators toward hiring and promoting female administrators in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) educational system in North America.

Method. A questionnaire was prepared consisting of four subscales with a total of 45 items measuring attitudes with respect to recruiting, performance evaluation, promotion, and general areas. This questionnaire was mailed to 458 male educational administrators of whom 322 returned usable surveys. Four hypotheses were tested by analysis of variance and chi-square.

Problem. Much of what is known concerning fund-raising policies and practices at colleges in the United States is anecdotal. Few empirical studies have focused on any aspect of fund raising. No known empirical study has identified those fund-raising policies that might help church-related colleges to be more effective in generating gift income from private philanthropy. The purpose of this study was to bring to light those fund-raising policies that may be associated with effective fund-raising programs at church-related colleges.

Problem

Greater discriminative power to clarify the diagnostic category of learning disabilities is needed. Research identifies many types of learning disabled populations. Studies do not indicate that the six variables used in this project had been combined and used in a project prior to this. Using measures such as Sentence Repeat, Synonyms, Digits Forward/Backwards, Design Copy, Nonsense Words, and Visual Pattern Matching, this project studied the responses of an LD sample to these subtests and their ability to discriminate among a verbally impaired sample, a spatially impaired sample, and a control group.
