This dissertation consists of three studies that examined diverse rural youths’ educational and rural aspirations. These studies have the potential to inform rural communities, educators, and parents by providing novel understandings of how peers and teachers in mathematics and science classrooms influence diverse rural youths’ rural attachment, and aspirations (i.e., educational, rural residential, community, and proximity). Thus, the purpose of this dissertation was to investigate rural teachers and their diverse students from White, African American, Hispanic, and Native American backgrounds. This dissertation and research looks into the area of Culturally Relevant Practices and Leadership in K-12 schools and the potential effect on all students in having minority leadership present. The research dives into interviews of teachers, hiring leaders, district leaders and building leaders. AbstractTeachers are experiencing violence at work at an alarming rate. Violence against teachers has become a national and international issue. However, there has been little discussion on the issue. The research questions pertained to how teachers experienced justice and violence at work and if they received training or adequate support before and after the violent incident. Check-in/check-out (CICO) is one of the most researched and implemented Tier 2 interventions, and there is ample research to indicate that it is efficient and effective. It has been noted that teachers typically do not successfully implement evidence-based practices (EBPs) after participating in traditional models of professional development (PD); however, research indicates that consultation improves teachers’ implementation of EBPs. Teleconsultation is new within schools, but there is evidence that it is an acceptable replacement for face-to-face consultation.
