A Follower's View Of Leadership, Albert Desimone Jr.
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal
Leadership and leaders—the embodiment of leadership—exist to effect positive change. If we were all satisfied with the way things are in the world, there would be no need for leaders. We would still need managers to oversee the individuals who maintain the status quo, and we would still need supervisors to oversee the tasks and processes associated with that maintenance.

Without any doubt, leadership plays a dominant role in the outcome of any organized effort aimed at a particular goal or a set of goals. It is the genius of leadership that mobilises human and material resources and creates the necessary climate for productivity. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that leadership accounts for most of the outcomes observable in Organisations. In the view of Jiboyewa (1988), leadership involves much more than the behaviours exhibited by leaders in any other organisation.

The purpose of this study was to examine the societal culture in Egypt in relation with leadership attributes. This paper also reported and elaborated on the dimensions of Egypt’s culture using GLOBE categories. When I examined the societal culture using the nine GLOBE dimensions, Egypt appeared to have the lowest score on assertiveness among all the 62 countries, and had relatively lower scores on uncertainty avoidance, societal collectivism, future orientation, and gender egalitarianism. On the other hand, Egypt had the third highest score on in-group collectivism, and had relatively high scores on performance orientation, power distance, and humane orientation. In …

What makes a leader successful? This question has been asked throughout the ages; before one attempt to understand what makes a leader successful, one must first have a full comprehension of what constitutes success and what constitutes a leader. To merely hold the position of a leader does not make one a leader. Success is largely an individualistic interpretation of personal increase or satisfaction, whether physical, emotional, or psychological. One’s perception of success is influenced by the social contexts around the individual. A successful leader must possess certain characteristics and have the ability to transform those characteristics into action. A …

“Go Live In ’05”—From Hierarchy To Shared Governance In Higher Education, Peter A. Maresco
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal
Higher education is in the midst of a major transformation evidenced by several factors: greater demands from stakeholders; pressure to increase student enrollment, financial uncertainty, limited resources, and a responsibility to contribute to the community’s civic and economic development. Faculty and staff in higher education are challenged to deliver education in innovative ways. This innovation requires an expedient method of governance and necessitates careful examination of the organization’s structural, cultural, and decision-making processes. To meet these demands, leaders in higher education must examine decision-making processes and design governance models that respond quickly and efficiently to their myriad of constituents.

Women University Presidents: Career Paths And Educational Backgrounds, Pam Springer, Cynthia Clark
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal
During the past few decades, research and scholarly dialogue focused on the topic of academic careers has increased. Although academe is just one of numerous industries whose career systems might be studied, it is a large and growing sector (Baruch & Hall, 2004). And, according to Baruch and Hall (2004), “with the accelerated level of available knowledge and the pressing need to develop human capital, there is a growing need for research on careers in academe” (p. 237). Rubin (2004) wrote of the development, attraction, and retention of outstanding leaders as one of eight fundamental challenges in higher education today. …

In a school, a teacher, as a leader, interacts directly with the students to develop their cognition for a desired outcome. This capacity to large extent influences by teacher’s role in the classroom. Hence three factors have major influence to shape effectiveness of a classroom. In the study reported in this paper, combinations of these factors were sought and presented in three dimensional models. Eight different combinations (models) …
