The problem of this study was to determine if there is a significant difference between expressed perceptions of selected community college faculty and administrators concerning the extent to which faculty "actually are" involved in decision making and the extent to which they "ought to be" involved in decision making. This was a descriptive study, which utilized a survey methodology. Faculty and administrator perceptions were studied in six decisional areas: appointment, promotion and tenure decisions, academic decisions, administration, student affairs and advisement, system/state control, and general (overall faculty involvement). This study investigated a range of motivational variables which might lead individuals to become educational administrators. Identified and reported are those variables which are viewed by teachers who comprised the pool from which most future administrators are drawn. Twenty-seven items were identified and used on an instrument, designed by the writer. The null hypothesis for statistical differences between male and female educators was tested on each of the 27 items at the .05 level of significance, using multivariate analysis of variance and the test of simple main effects. The problem of this study was to determine some similarities and differences in selected Tennessee elementary principals' perceived allocation and ideal allocation of time for curriculum related activities. A questionnaire, consisting of the most prevalent curriculum activities, was developed and mailed to a randomly selected sample of 300 elementary principals. The t-Test was utilized to determine differences between perceived allocation of time and ideal allocation of time. Differences were determined for the four stages of curriculum related activities of studying, planning, implementing, and evaluating. The purpose of this study was to obtain information relative to the extent of drug use by high school seniors in Tennessee. Patterns of drug use were obtained by using a questionnaire/opinionnaire developed by Bachman, Johnston, and O'Malley of the Institute for Social Research, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The review of literature focused on patterns of drug use by seniors throughout the nation using the same questionnaire/opinionnaire. The results of the national survey were compared with the findings in Tennessee. The problem of this study was to determine if, in selected counties in Tennessee, differences in the noncompletion rate, the positive termination rate, and the job retention rate existed in categories of participants in the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). This study followed the ex-post-facto design. A personal data form was developed for the purpose of gathering data relative to the personal characteristics of participants enrolled in the JTPA on-the-job training program between July 1, 1984 and June 30, 1985. The problem of the study was to determine the perceived leadership behavior of female superintendents as compared to male superintendents. An instrument was constructed from American Association of Secondary Administrators' recommendations for superior performance of school administrators and subsequently validated. A demographic data sheet accompanied the survey instrument. The subjects were selected from southern states in which there were more than five women superintendents officially listed by the State Board of Education. The states included Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The survey instrument was forwarded to 350 subjects; 172 subjects responded from the five states. The sample …

People's participation at the grassroots level in development is a major concern of policy-makers, development planners, research workers and practitioners in the field of rural development. The problem of this study was to determine if collective negotiations had restricted the perceived managerial authority of Tennessee's public school principals within selected demographic variables. Fourteen demographic variables (the independent variables) were selected for the study. Pauline's Principals On-Job Discretion Scale (the dependent variable) developed and validated by Robert A. Pauline was selected as the appropriate instrument for use in this study. The instrument listed ten responsibilities of public school principals which might or might not be registered by the terms and conditions of teachers' negotiated agreements with school boards. The educational efforts of the first fifty years of the 1700s for the Gullahs, black slaves brought to South Carolina's low country, were a by-product of the Church of England's concern for the souls of heathens. Through the Church's offspring, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, missionaries were sent to South Carolina beginning in 1702. By 1704, Samuel Thomas, the Society's first missionary there, reported that he had taught about twenty blacks to read, and by 1743 the Society opened a school for blacks in Charleston despite a 1740 law prohibiting slave education. How might deaf children acquire one of the primary goals of education literacy in English? This article suggests that literacy in English as well as knowledge of the English language can be acquired concomitantly through developmental reading and writing activities that reflect principles of first language acquisition if students bring to these activities relatable experiences which they have already linguistically represented. Such activities engage students in reading and writing where content and context support them in their attempts to actively understand and convey meaning in English. A program introduced by the author was developed and implemented to provide the school and community with An Outdoor Environmental Education Center and supportive curriculum. This program was implemented to satisfy a recommendation in the Pinellas County Elementary Schools Educational Specifications manual which called for such a center in the construction of new schools. There was also a request from the faculty to enhance the environmentally rich campus of the school with this education center for the use of school and community. The problem of this study was to determine if a difference existed between selected classroom teachers' attitudes toward mainstreaming. The Attitudes Toward Mainstreaming Scale (ATMS) was the instrument selected as appropriate for the study. Permission was obtained from Joan Berryman at the University of Georgia, Athens, to reproduce and administer the ATMS. A stratified random sample was conducted as representative of the total population of classroom teachers in North Carolina. A demographic data sheet and the ATMS were mailed to 280 classroom teachers. A 75% return was obtained. The data sheet asked for the sex, present level of teaching position, …
