Utilizing a purposive sampling, this study sought to explore the magnitude of behavioral change from a tendency toward anger to a tendency toward meekness as one matures as a Christian. It sought to close the gap in understanding how Christians viewed …
Implementation Fidelity Of Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports And Teacher Perception Of Pbis And Classroom Control, Alicia Jean Tuttle
Implementation Fidelity Of Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports And Teacher Perception Of Pbis And Classroom Control, Alicia Jean Tuttle
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Student behavior is an important topic that educators must contend with in the current educational climate. Due to changing laws and movement away from zero tolerance policies, schools have had to adapt to manage student misbehavior differently. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a common framework that has been adopted to help create positive behavior change on school campuses when implemented with fidelity; however, teacher perception is important for implementation fidelity of PBIS. There were two purposes to this study. The first purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to examine the difference between teacher perception of PBIS and …

The Effectiveness Of Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports (Pbis) In Schools, Jennifer L. Van Otterloo
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Negative student behaviors are increasing in schools today (Molly et al., 2013). When students engage in problem behaviors, they are more likely to fall through the cracks and their educational gap increases. Therefore, something needs to be done in school systems to decrease these problem behaviors. PBIS is an implementation framework that is designed to improve academic and social behavior outcomes for all students (Sungai & Simonsen, 2012). The purpose of this literature review is to explore the effects of PBIS on student behavior and ways to implement PBIS successfully. Overall, research shows that when PBIS is implemented correctly and …

Factors That Influence Elementary Administrators' Decision-Making Experiences Regarding Implementation Of School-Wide Behavior Improvement Programs: A Phenomenological Study, Meredith Miller Welch
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the factors that influence elementary administrators' decisions whether to implement school-wide behavior improvement programs. Westaby's (2005) behavioral reasoning theory guided this study to answer the central research question: What factors influence elementary administrators' decisions whether to implement school-wide behavior improvement programs? Sub questions for the study include (1) what school-based, context-specific reasons influence elementary administrators' decisions whether to implement school-wide behavior improvement programs? and (2) what global motives influence elementary administrators' decisions whether to implement school-wide behavior improvement programs? Criterion sampling was used to select elementary school administrators from a …
Student Preferences And Decisions For Online Or In-Person Class Sessions In Blended Learning, James Max Christensen
Student Preferences And Decisions For Online Or In-Person Class Sessions In Blended Learning, James Max Christensen
Theses and Dissertations
Online learning sessions are becoming increasingly common. In this study, we reviewed over 150 studies of online and blended learning, revealing that the factors that affect student preferences for online or in-person learning vary widely and compiled a table of these factors. They can be categorized as either learning preferences or current lifestyle conditions. To better understand these preferences, we implemented an intervention in which college-level engineering students were given the choice to attend either an online or in-person session for a class they normally attended in a different modality. We compared college students' stated preferences with demonstrated attendance for …

Staff Perceptions Of Swpbis In Middle School, Eric Westbye
M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership Research Projects
Student behavioral issues lead to lost learning opportunities by the student misbehaving
and the students trying to learn (Gage, Grasley-Boy, George, Childs, and Kincaid, 2018), a punitive approach of suspensions and expulsions is never in the best interest of these students. Staff members need a behavior model that is proactive and consistent. Many schools have implemented SWPBIS (School Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) programs as a preventative way to decrease suspensions and increase morale. There are several critical factors to look at in schools that are implementing SWPBIS, staff by in and staff perception are two of the biggest. …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
High School Equivalency (HSE) Programs operate in response to the national increase in high school dropout rates. These alternative learning methods are attractive to nontraditional high school students because they are designed to accommodate students who are unable to complete their high school diploma via the traditional classroom setting. However, even though these programs continue to thrive in many communities, many students are still unsuccessful at completing these programs. Therefore, there is a need to research the possible factors that prevent students from earning the equivalent of a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) via these programs. Grounded …

Effects Of School Wide Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports In An African American All-Boys Urban School, Theresa Thomas
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract Teachers and administrators spend a great deal of time addressing minor to moderate school discipline behaviors with punitive actions such as suspensions and expulsions from school. Past research has revealed that such punitive actions do not correct the unwanted behavior, and extensive use of punitive disciplinary actions have been linked to negative outcomes such as repeated suspensions, repeating grades due to time missed from school, increased likelihood of dropping out of school, or potential involvement in the juvenile justice system. This single case study design addressed the following research question: How school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) affected …
