Design, Implementation And Perceptions Of A Preservice Mentor Development Program, Jill R. Heiney-Smith
Education Dissertations
Teacher education programs support their mentor teachers through a variety of resources and professional development, but generally lack a dedicated curriculum for pre-service mentoring. This study was designed to learn what kinds of resources, tools, trainings, and experiences would better support mentor teachers in a teacher education (or pre-service) program. The study was grounded in social learning theories and empirical research on mentoring, as well as research on teacher induction and professional development. Mixed-methods data were collected in three sequential phases with a total sample of n = 199 mentor teachers. Results indicate that mentors have sophisticated expectations for their …

Case Study Of A New Teacher Mentoring And Induction Program, Jennifer S. Collins
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
A single case design was used to explore the implementation of the new teacher induction and mentoring program (NTIMP) from the perspective of new teachers who participated in the program. The district studied for this single case study was experiencing high teacher turnover. To reduce this problem, a NTIMP was implemented by the district. The NTIMP was investigated with a diverse sample of new educators from a semi-rural school district in the western part of the United States. Data sources including interviews, surveys, and document review were used in the study to allow for triangulation of data. Findings indicated that …

A Program For Teacher Induction, Patricia Lager 7701725, Katherine Bertolini
Empowering Research for Educators
Even though many novice teachers are prepared academically to deal with subject matter, many of them enter the teaching field unprepared for many of the other aspects of teaching such as dealing with grading programs, insurance claims, inventory and various other matters that differ from school-to-school. Often these new teachers feel isolated and unsupported and possibly do not realize what they do not know or the proper questions to ask. This results in nearly 29% of them leaving the field within their first three years and around 39% leaving within their first five years. This project proposes creating a teacher …

Relationship Between Novice Teachers' Perceptions Of Mentoring Support And Job Satisfaction, Karen Nichola Williams
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Low job satisfaction among novice teachers is a problem that has become a concern for administrators at school districts, advancing the need for effective mentoring and induction programs. Induction programs provide opportunities for collaborative relationships through mentoring support to address areas such as professional growth and development, teaching practices, and other challenges faced in the early years of novice teachers' careers. Rem Initiative To Develop Educational Strategies For Inductions Of Labor, Chandra Evette Jones-Worthing
Rem Initiative To Develop Educational Strategies For Inductions Of Labor, Chandra Evette Jones-Worthing
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Inductions of labor that occur prior to 39 weeks' gestation can pose increased risks for the mother-baby dyad. In the target setting, there is a gap in knowledge among the pregnant women about options for delivery, hospital policies and procedures, and what to expect in the labor and delivery experience. Because of this gap in knowledge, the pregnant patient is unable to make informed decisions regarding her needs, expectations, and care. This lack of knowledge has resulted in a 40-50% rate of inductions of labor at the target site, which is well above the 2014 national average of 25%. In …
