Conflict Management And Team Building As Competencies For Nurse Managers To Improve Retention, Jeanette Black

DNP Qualifying Manuscripts

Abstract

Aim(s): To critically review and summarize evidence related to coaching and training nurse managers in conflict management and team building skills and to determine the relationship of these skills to retention.

Background: Retention of nurse managers is a significant challenge to healthcare organizations.

Evaluation: The databases searched were CINAHL, PubMed, evidence-based journals, JANE, Cochrane, SCOPUS and Joanna Briggs. The keywords searched were conflict management, team building, nurse manager retention, retention, teamwork, healthy work environment, conflict management theory, organizational culture, coaching nurse managers, and nursing. The Impact Of Transfer Shock In A Dental Hygiene Program At A Four-Year Health-Sciences University, Claire Sallee Tucker Dec 2018

The Impact Of Transfer Shock In A Dental Hygiene Program At A Four-Year Health-Sciences University, Claire Sallee Tucker

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In order for a student to be successful in dental hygiene education, the student must gain the required knowledge and skills necessary to perform as a hygienist and possess the ability to utilize critical thinking to apply these attributes while in the program and on the National Board of Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) (Alzahrani, Thompson, & Bauman, 2007; Fried, Maxey, Battani, Gurenlian, Byrd, & Brunick, 2017). Dental hygiene students who attend a medical university have the option to take required pre-requisite courses at a community college or a four-year university. All dental hygiene students transfer from another institution and all …

A Preliminary Evaluation Of An Academic Support Program, James Colin Bumby Aug 2018

A Preliminary Evaluation Of An Academic Support Program, James Colin Bumby

Theses and Dissertations

The responsibility for graduating students is a school responsibility. A large urban Midwestern research university created the Nursing Endeavor Program (NEP) to ensure that students from underserved minorities, first generation, and/or low income are enabled to graduate successfully. There is a 100% retention rate for the period from admission to the nursing major in the junior year; however, in the pre-nursing years, the retention rate is only 50%. The role transition from pre-nursing student to student nurse can be challenging and stressful. A qualitative phenomenographic research approach was utilized to identify the factors facilitating and the factors hindering this transition. …

The Relationship Between The Number Of Hours Taken In A Senior Practicum Course In Prelicensure Nursing Education And The Score Of Preception Of Professional Competence By The Newly Graduated Nurse, Arlene Holowaychuk Apr 2018

The Relationship Between The Number Of Hours Taken In A Senior Practicum Course In Prelicensure Nursing Education And The Score Of Preception Of Professional Competence By The Newly Graduated Nurse, Arlene Holowaychuk

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study determined whether there is a relationship between the number of direct acute care hours completed in a senior practicum course during pre-licensure nursing education and the scores of perception of Nurse Professional Competence (NPC) in newly graduated nurses between the third and sixth month of employment. A sample of new hires of newly graduated nurses within a large, nonprofit healthcare system was used. Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval was obtained from Liberty University’s IRB and the healthcare organization’s IRB prior to the survey being sent out to prospective participants and data collected. A non-experimental, correlational design was used …

Effects Of Fluid Consumption Volumes On Fluid Retention During Sodium-Aided Hyperhydration Protocols, Shelby L. Greene, Elizaveta Roslanova, David M. Morris Feb 2018

Effects Of Fluid Consumption Volumes On Fluid Retention During Sodium-Aided Hyperhydration Protocols, Shelby L. Greene, Elizaveta Roslanova, David M. Morris

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Numerous investigations have supported the use of sodium-aided hyperhydration to improve hydration status and exercise performance in the heat. Sodium-aided hyperhydration studies typically utilize fluid volumes ranging from 10 - 25 mL ∙ kg bm-1; however, optimum fluid consumption volumes have not been identified. While it may seem logical that larger fluid consumption volumes would promote greater hyperhydration, excessive expansion of plasma volume could stimulate high-pressure baroreceptors and promote excessive diuresis. PURPOSE: To compare the effects of different fluid consumption volumes on fluid retention during a sodium-aided hyperhydration protocol. METHODS: Urine excretion was measured during four …
