A Study Of Perceived Leadership Styles As It Affects The Decision-Making Process Employed By Eleven Catholic School Principals In South Texas, Mary Olivia Agbakoba

Theses and Dissertations

Catholic School principals play an important role in the development of students' spiritual, social, and academic wellbeing. Consequently, in order to improve students' spiritual, social, and academic skill, it is vital to study the perceived leadership styles and decision-making of Catholic School Principals. Research questions include: "Is there a relationship between Catholic School Principals and teachers' perceptions on principals' leadership styles?", and "Is there an association between decision type and decision-making style used?" 11 Catholic School Principals and 179 Catholic School Teachers completed a paper and pencil survey that assessed the perceived leadership styles of principals. Data was analyzed using …

Who Do You Say You Are: Relationships And Faith In Catholic Schools, Jennifer S. Maney, Carrie King, Thomas J. Kiely

Journal of Catholic Education

This study aimed to evaluate and articulate what makes Catholic schools special and effective by measuring culture and climate in five Catholic high schools and two Catholic elementary schools in a large metropolitan area in the Midwest United States. The seven schools represented a variety of student demographics, location, and size of school. Findings of this study included: the Catholic identity of schools must become an intentional aspect of the planning, orientation, training, and evaluation of the faculty and administration; faculty-student relationships are rarely measured regarding their effectiveness in bolstering academic achievement or Catholic mission effectiveness; cultural awareness and cultural …

Session 15: Catholic Social Teaching, Ellen Mommaerts, Julie Massey

Gateway's Pilot Year

We expect to offer a basic grounding in CST, likely through a video (we’re reviewing a few options of existing videos.) After the video, students will pair share - what words caught their attention in the video. All students provided a handout that gives a brief description of each of the seven themes. Students are broken into 7 groups, each assigned one theme. The small groups are given questions to discuss related to their theme, that help them reflect on how they can be advocates and agents of change related to this theme. Each group creates a meme to promote …

Session 13: Understanding The Catholic Tradition, Julie Massey

Gateway's Pilot Year

After a brief check-in process, students will be asked to pair share their childhood experiences of faith or church and what the term religion means to them. Then the group will brainstorm reactions to the term “Catholic.” We’ll share a very short video that shows some of the expansiveness of the tradition (through celebrities, types/locations of ministry, subgroups that are engaged in the tradition,) and then ask the students to engage the SNC articulation of the Catholic tradition. (It was hoped that SNC articulation would come through the “elevator version” of the Catholic identity statement, but for this year we …

A Systematic Narrative Review Of Literature On Catholic Schools In Australia To Better Understand The Role Of School Leadership Deploying And Integrating Information And Communication Technology (Ict) In This Environment, Steven Francis Vella, Oliver Kisalay Burmeister, Arnela Ceric, Andrew Barnden

eJournal of Catholic Education in Australasia

Research literature within school education present school leaders with a range of roles deploying and integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Roles range from being critically important for success, being needed but to a lesser extent, through to not being needed at all. Australian Catholic schools operate in the same political and social context as schools from other sectors but assimilate the Catholic mission in what they do. To determine if the role of school leadership deploying and integrating ICT in Australian Catholic schools reflected literature from the broader education environment, this study carried out a systematic narrative literature review …

Archbishop Rummel's Leadership In Troubled Times: Spiritual And Secular Discourses To Integrate Parochial And Public Schools In New Orleans, Kristina Mckenzie-Hudson

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This study examines the pastoral letters of Archbishop Joseph Francis Rummel. Rummel served as the archbishop of the New Orleans archdiocese during a very tumultuous period in New Orleans’ history, 1935-1964. In the four decades before Rummel’s arrival, the archdiocese of New Orleans became increasingly segregated. Segregation became Church policy, as the New Orleans Catholic Church shunned its integrationist roots. As the infamous school crisis of 1960 raged in New Orleans and gained national attention, as leader of the Catholic faithful, Rummel would be confronted with the seminal question of his tenure, what was his stance on segregation in the …
