A Professional Learning Community With An Arabian Twist, Christine Ann Roy Dec 2016

A Professional Learning Community With An Arabian Twist, Christine Ann Roy

Master's Theses & Capstone Projects

This paper discusses how a western approach to a Professional Learning Community (PLC) can be implemented in an eastern setting, without taking out the essence of the culture. It is based on personal observations of how a community functions within a culture. This study seeks to explore the steps to implementing a structured PLC in which the already existing community produces empowered teachers who will be life-long learners. It describes the beginning stages of executing a PLC by enabling ordinary teachers to facilitate professional development meetings at a local, private school in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Perceived Impact Of Professional Learning Communities On Collective Teacher Efficacy In Two Rural Western North Carolina School Districts, Katie Thompson Bailey Jul 2016

The Perceived Impact Of Professional Learning Communities On Collective Teacher Efficacy In Two Rural Western North Carolina School Districts, Katie Thompson Bailey

Education Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived impact of professional learning communities (PLCs) on collective teacher efficacy in two rural western North Carolina school districts. The theoretical framework for this study began with the assumption that there was a direct linkage between PLCs and collective teacher efficacy.

The Professional Learning Communities Assessment-Revised (PLCA-R) survey instrument was utilized to collect data in two rural western North Carolina school districts. An elementary, middle, and high school from each district were involved in the study. Through the use of the PLCA-R, 95 total responses were obtained. In an attempt to …

A Methodological Analysis Of Research Into The Effect Of Professional Learning Community On Student Academic Achievement, Brandon K. Thacker Jul 2016

A Methodological Analysis Of Research Into The Effect Of Professional Learning Community On Student Academic Achievement, Brandon K. Thacker

Theses and Dissertations

This study analyzed all published research articles examining the relationship between professional community efforts (plc) (used here as a broader category than, but inclusive of, Professional Learning Communities or PLCs) and student academic achievement (SAA) that reported primary research findings published before January 1, 2015. This study specifically identified primary, quantitative studies of SAA that in context are plc, but which may or may not be labeled as such, that were published before January 1, 2015. Analyses examined how many studies of plc and SAA were of a descriptive, correlational, causal comparative, quasi-experimental,or experimental design type, evaluated …

Psychological And Behavioral Dimensions Of Team Trust And Adherence To Collaborative Team Norms Within Plcs, Anne L. Staffieri Mar 2016

Psychological And Behavioral Dimensions Of Team Trust And Adherence To Collaborative Team Norms Within Plcs, Anne L. Staffieri

Theses and Dissertations

In response to increasing demands placed on public education, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) have emerged as a means of providing teachers with opportunities to collaborate together. Collaboration has been shown to improve teaching practices and lead to better student outcomes. Trust has been shown to be an important factor contributing to the success of PLC teams. Adherence to collaborative norms is also an important factor in the ability to collaborate successfully in PLC teams, yet few studies exist that empirically assess the relationship between trust and adherence to norms regarding the collaboration process. Participants in this study are public high …

Educator’S Perceptions Of Effective Professional Learning Communities, Sandra Jamison

M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership Research Projects

This research explored the experiences of educators with a professional learning community (PLC) and focused on their perceptions of what constituted essential elements for an effective PLC. This mixed methods study sought to understand more completely the group dynamics of various PLC teams in a Maine rural school with an emphasis on defining key components of those communities. This study revealed that if key elements such as trust, respect and collaboration were in place, then PLCs were often able to fulfill its designated purpose. Findings determined that PLCs at the school had the prerequisite key elements and thus could be …

Transforming Instructional Design: Using Professional Learning Communities (Plcs) To Invoke Change And To Incorporate The Framework Into Instructional Practice, Natalie Bishop, Pamela Dennis

Dover Library Faculty Professional Development Activities

When challenged with migrating to LibGuides 2.0, we sought to implement an easily accessible tool that would be useful to our students. With the recent launching of Framework threshold concepts by ACRL, we saw the opportunity to combine LibGuides migration with Framework introduction to improve our existing instructional design practices. In order to attain buy-in by our library faculty, we chose to create a Professional Learning Community (PLC), allowing us to take agency for our own professional development/learning. PLCs function as a collaborative effort to improve student learning through action research and job-embedded learning (DuFour, et al., 2006). Recognizing that …
