Preface Excerpt: The authors see two main streams flowing through Taylor University's history. First, from its inception as Fort Wayne Female College in 1846, there has been a commitment to equal educational opportunities for both genders and for all economic classes. In the nineteenth century, classical studies formed the core of the curriculum. In the twentieth century, the liberal arts commitment has remained central. The second stream is the focus on Christian service nationally and internationally.
