There has been limited research on the benefits nurses' derive from participation in continuing nursing education (CNE). Researchers have investigated sociodemographic and attitudinal characteristics of CNE participants or the effects of CNE on nursing practice.;The purpose of this study was to determine what factors influenced registered nurses in the Southeastern region of Virginia to participate or not to participate in CNE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an early contact program on the achievement, persistence, and satisfaction of new underprepared community college students. While open door admissions policies assure access to higher education, nearly three-fourths of all community college students leave before completing an associate degree. The traditional sink or swim approach to community college student success is at odds with the goal of improved student outcomes. This study seeks to discover the elements in Virginia Military Institute's past that have proven most influential in guiding and preserving its present-day distinctive culture. Historical in nature, the study also incorporates theories from sociology and political science in analyzing the importance of events, people, and places surrounding Virginia Military between 1816 and 1890. Integral to the overarching theory behind this dissertation is the assumption that VMI's history is closely linked with the history of Virginia and of the American South. The purpose of this study is to analyze the income and expenditure patterns at three Liberal Arts I colleges in the Midwest from 1979-89. It combines from hard data from HEGIS/IPEDS financial reports and interviews with campus administrators to examine the effects the 1980s had on the institutions and makes a judgment about the financial condition of each college as they entered the 1990s. The study also examines state, local, and federal policies and presents the administrators' policy views about solutions to help ensure a financially strong sector of liberal arts colleges. This study examined how closely guidelines proposed by Ender, Schuette, & Neuberger (1984) are being followed for training of career services peer paraprofessionals and how programs have changed since the mid 1980s. Surveys were sent to supervisors and peer paraprofessionals at 161 offices of career services at colleges and universities throughout the United States which were identified by McKenzie and Manoogian-O'Dell (1988) as having active paraprofessional programs.;Research questions were asked regarding (1) training content, (2) evaluation of paraprofessionals, and (3) form of reimbursement for services. A large agency of the Federal Government, three public institutions of higher learning, and two agents of State Government in the Commonwealth of Virginia launched a federally funded research and education consortium in 1962. The Virginia Associated Research Center (VARC) promised great success. The University of Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and The College of William and Mary joined forces to provide the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Langley Research Center with a scientific research base and a graduate education program.
