The author reviews the key problems associated with generally accepted practices for identifying, and providing programs, for the gifted Native American student. Culturally appropriate behavior of the Native American gifted is discussed and an outline for securing tribal input to the development of an identification process is suggested. The importance of using culture based definitions of giftedness and goals in the education of students so identified is stressed. Program options and models are presented which address the central issue of self-concept.

This project provides a program handbook to be used by the Kennewick School District in their cooperative effort with the universities to provide a meaningful experience for potential future administrators. The intent was to provide a tool that will help both the school district and the intern form a stronger commitment in the administrative training process. The Program Handbook contains necessary information, application forms, processes and expectations of persons involved. It also provides an organizational and recording tool for selected interns and their supervisors.

A handbook was created for the Thorp School District to provide teachers with science goals and objectives for each grade level. A science philosophy, a sample evaluation sheet, elementary science scope and sequence, a list of current textbooks, and the sequences of science classes were also presented in the handbook. Curriculum guides from several districts were studied before the goals and objectives were written for the handbook. The research on the needs of a curriculum and the past and current trends in science curriculum was reviewed. The literature regarding science curriculum supported the development of the handbook. Recommendations were proposed.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the National Middle School Association (NMSA) has been consistent with its written purposes, organizational structure, administrative leadership, publications, conferences, finances, and membership. An investigation was made of NMSA's records from its inception in 1970 through 1980. Personal and telephone interviews were conducted with leaders of NMSA. A compilation of happenings, past works, problems and accomplishments of the Association was made available to those interested in the history of NMSA. The problem of this study was to determine if significant differences existed between teachers and school board members in two school districts in Kentucky in their perceptions of 35 selected educational issues and procedures. The population studied included all teachers and board members in the two selected school districts. A study of the county school district in Kentucky was conducted in 1973 and in 1982. Study of the city school district in Kentucky was only conducted in 1982. Chi-square statistics were used to analyze the data. Fifteen null hypotheses were tested in this study. The purpose of this study was to determine the administrative structure, staff qualifications, and staffing patterns of selected school-age child care projects administered by public school districts; and to develop guidelines for planning future projects. The problem of this study was to determine the relationships among selected predictor variables in order to identify the combination of variables which best predicts scores on the National Teacher Examination-Weighted Common Examination Total Score. The identified variables were sex, teaching level, ACT composite scores, teacher education admission grade-point averages, CAT scores in Reading, Mathematics, and English, and Professional Education sequence grade-point averages. Nine hypotheses comprised the basis of this study. The first eight hypotheses pertained to the bivariate relationship of each predictor variable and the NTE-WCET scores. The purpose of the project was to develop a workshop to provide on the job training for aides in secondary special education programs in Bremerton, Washington. A needs assessment was conducted to determine the validity of the perceived need and to identify and prioritize training areas. Existing training programs were examined and a literature search conducted. The resulting training model was designed to increase the effectiveness of aides and thereby maximize the delivery of instruction in special education.

An in-service program for secondary teachers to increase understanding of the learning disabled student's response to learning style was developed. The in-service was organized into five 2 hour weekly sessions. The program format includes a participant agenda, and a presenter's guide with objectives and instructions for each instructional activity. Characteristics of the learning disabled student, the Dunn and Dunn applied model of student learning style, and two learning style materials development sessions were included in the in-service program.

The total leadership program at Cashmere High School was evaluated and a detailed outline and explanation of its' program was established. The evaluation provided Cashmere with a realistic view of its' entire leadership environment and the study resulted in a leadership structure guideline by which any secondary school could develop a positive leadership program.

The problem of the study was to measure how much students from other countries were satisfied with American education. The purposes of the study were to ascertain the extent to which international students perceived American education as satisfying their educational goals; to determine if any relationship existed between their perceptions of American education before and during their actual experiences with it; and to compare the perceptions of American education by students from one continent to those of other continents.
