The proposed study would be conducted with fifty to sixty rural, male and female students enrolled in ninth grade language arts classes to determine whether the use of games bas a greater effect on achievement and motivation, than the use of the traditional techniques of lecture and discussion. A modification of the nonequivalent control group design is intended for use which two intact classrooms to test the two hypotheses. The effects of the treatment would be measured by a twenty item achievement test adapted from two other standardized achievement tests and one criterion-referenced test. The problem of this study was to identify existing factors affecting professional personnel of Johnson City and Washington County, Tennessee, public school systems and to project the effect merger would have on these factors. Subproblems consisted of identification of the criteria for maximum professional personnel performance, present approaches for meeting the needs of professional personnel in event of merger, and the factors involved in successful and unsuccessful merger attempts to determine what effects merger had on professional personnel. The growing interest in the self-concept as a factor to learning and the idea of confluence as a possible motivator for building positive self-concepts influenced the direction and intention of this study. The problem of this study was (1) to develop a confluent language arts program designed to improve the self-concepts and reading achievement of students; and (2) to determine if there were increases in self-concept and reading achievement scores after participation in the program. The problem of this study was to determine whether the ethnic identification of teachers with their school principals affected the teachers' perception of the principals' leadership behavior. This study followed the ex-post-facto design of a co-relational study. Twelve dimensions of the Leader Behavior Description Questionnaire, Form 12 (LBDQ-XII) were selected to assess the perception of teachers belonging to three different ethnic groups of the leadership behavior of principals belonging to the three ethnic groups. This study was a statewide survey that attempted to determine the value of Texas history programs and the status of the materials available. Information was gathered in a survey of selected schools with an Average Daily Attendance of at least 10,000 students during the 1979-1980 school year. The data was summarized and analyzed in eight tables. The conclusions of this study Indicate; (1) the movement to eliminate the required teaching of Texas history is in great disfavor with the teachers of Texas history; (2) the state required minimum of 24 hours of history is considered adequate; (3) most school districts …

The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between the variables of (1) sex, (2) attitudes toward mathematics, (3) college grade point average (GPA), (4) American College Test (ACT) mathematics scores, (5) number of mathematics courses taken, and the variable of (6) mathematics computation scores on the California Achievement Test (CAT) Form 6 - Level 19. The purpose of this study was to determine if the leader behavior of the principal and the organizational climate of the school were perceived differently by teachers in elementary schools with female principals when compared to elementary schools with male principals. It also sought to determine if significant differences existed between female and male teachers' perceptions of both female and male principals. A total of 217 subjects responded. The purpose of this study was to collect data for examination and analysis of school vandalism and to provide a way for better understanding of the problem by examining the various contributors. The purpose of this study was to seek answers to the following: (1) items employed in schools to lessen vandalism, (2) attitudes of school principals concerning vandalism prevention, (3) dollar estimates of vandalism, (4) student absenteeism, and (5) teacher absenteeism. The problem was to determine whether significant relationships exist in the attitudes of eighth-grade teachers, their principals, and their superintendents toward minimum competency testing in Tennessee. Literature was reviewed in order to determine the problems associated with the implementation of a minimum competency testing program. Questionnaires were developed to obtain the attitudes of teachers, principals, and superintendents about the questions most often encountered in the literature. School systems to be surveyed were selected by stratified random sampling from defined pupil enrollment categories after the questionnaires were field tested. The purpose of this study was the description of the instructional supervisory role in the state of Tennessee as perceived by county public school instructional supervisors. The description constituted a determination of differences which exist between the actual and ideal role perceptions of county instructional supervisors. The determination was thought to be essential for movement toward role congruency, enhancement of instructional supervisory behavior, and the heightening of teacher-student engagement opportunities.
