The driver education program being operated in this state is not adequate in terms of meeting the course standards issued by the U. S. Department of Transportation. The purpose of this study is two- fold: (1) To present a basic course outline that will meet the federal standards, and (2) to assist school district superintendents in determining the essential scheduling and staff requirements to conduct a satisfactory driver education program.

The study was initiated to determine whether or not certain skills which are necessary to the development of good speech could be programed. Students utilizing programed instruction techniques would be able to practice skills which were formerly acquired during regular therapy sessions and, therefore, have the benefit of therapeutic services at their own discretion. A group of fifty-one kindergarten children (23 boys and 28 girls) from Central School in Hoquiam, Washington, were studied for the purpose of evaluating changes occurring during the school year in terms of readiness and academic growth. A series of tests were given in October and November as an inventory of the child's background of skills and readiness in the fall, and the tests were repeated in May to measure any change occurring during the school year.
