The premise acted upon in this study was not hastily contrived. Centuries of the recognized best in thinking have been compiled before any dynamics were put in motion. Thought of current authorities has been sifted and carefully weighed before six-year-olds were subjected to its effects. The outcome of this search for a truth has been gratifying. After much "boiling and skimming" this truth remained in the field of teaching human relationships: If a child fully realizes that his fellow being is a living, sensitive organism, his overt action and emotional reactions are generally affected.

The tabulated data used in this study were selected from the files of the superintendent of LaRue County schools.

The teacher's register of attendance for Kentucky schools from 1947 to 1951 were used to determine the eighth grade graduates of that period. Other data were furnished by the high school principals concerning the failures, promotions, and eliminations in their schools.

The purpose of this thesis is to ascertain the reasons for eighth grade graduates not entering high school and the number of years the eighth grade graduates who entered high school remained in membership. The years considered are 1947 to …

This study shows that the school census is dropping rapidly in rural areas. It must be remembered that with the introduction of more labor saving farm machinery and the consolidation of small farms that the end is not in sight.

A greater percentage of children are enrolled in our schools. The percentage of attendance is higher and will continue to slowly improve. As consolidation of small schools progresses, school plants and physical equipment will improve.

Over one-half of the children in average daily attendance are transported. Percentage of enrollment and percentage of attendance are much better in the transported group. …
