Investigating An Afterschool Program For Black Teenage Males Designed To Increase Self-Efficacy, Marvin Lee Byrd
Dissertations
This is a study of the experiences of Black male teenagers in an after-school program designed to increase self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is the measure of one‘s confidence in their capacity to achieve an ultimate goal. Inequality has proven to be a cyclical state-of-being that plagues families from one generation to another. In many instances, Black families find themselves in this cycle of inequality. Education seems to be a factor in breaking the cycle. This study was developed under the belief that there are also qualitative components that must be considered when it comes to erasing the gap between minority and white …

Academic engagement of college student leaders may be affected due to the amount of time and energy that is needed to lead a student organization. This affect is tested through a mixed method research design where self-generated questions in conjunction with portions of the National Survey of Student Engagement and Cooperative Institutional Research Program are used to gain a deeper understanding of academic engagement of college student leaders. Results of the study indicate that student leaders have a relatively high level of academic engagement. Student Affairs professionals can use this research to gain an understanding of the complexity of academic …

The purpose of this study was to explore the possible relationship between teacher self-efficacy among secondary math teachers in Alabama and administrative support, teacher/colleague support, and support through resources. The study also examined whether gender or race related to teachers' sense of self-efficacy. Examining self-efficacy for secondary math teachers is an important step in the strategic support of these individuals and improving student achievement in mathematics. Indeed, a closer look at district and school level support factors related to the self-efficacy of teachers is warranted, given continuing concerns over student math performance. A quantitative study of 105 Alabama secondary math …
