Response To Intervention And Implementing Early Math Intervention Programs, Megan Souther

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

The Response to Intervention (RtI) model has transformed the methodology behind education and the way teachers instruct their students. This model focuses on giving students the instruction they need before the gap between them and their peer' increases. This model was created using a three tier system. All students within a school receive instruction at one of these tiers. Many intervention programs have been created to help teachers instruct students at each of these tiers and in each content area. Unfortunately for teachers it can be overwhelming to decide which of these programs are going to make the biggest difference …

The Role Of Engineering Graphics In The Civil Engineering Technology Curriculum, Charles F. Didomenico Nov 2009

The Role Of Engineering Graphics In The Civil Engineering Technology Curriculum, Charles F. Didomenico

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

This author presents the concept that the basic mechanical drawing course at Pueblo Community College is no longer relevant to the graphics skills required in industry and should not be a prerequisite in the civil engineering technology curriculum. A review of literature reveals that basic mechanical drawing courses are not routinely integrated into civil engineering technology programs in the Colorado Community College System. The literature shows that the majority of programs in the community college system utilize computer aided drafting as the prerequisite. Alternatively, as a replacement, the author presents a hybrid mechanical drawing-computer aided drafting (CAD) curriculum that integrates …

The Importance Of Integrating Curriculum Disciplines In Middle School Classrooms, Amanda Vanni

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Integrated curriculum has been a method of teaching towards student interest and success for over 50 years (Beane, 1992). Research has shown that integrated curriculum positively effects students' test scores and content area grades, and for this reason has become a widely promoted curriculum reform strategy. Parker (2007) observes that the real world does not fragment problems into specifically designated content areas, yet students are taught to engage in their "math brain or social studies brain" (p. 1) for fragmented periods of time and then switch their thinking skills in jolted one hour blocks of time. Instead, Parker (2007) addresses …

Strategies To Help Subject Matter Experts Become Master Trainers, Molly Everman

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Subject matter experts (SMEs) are often called on in the modern workplace to train other employees in their area of expertise. SMEs often do not have the training or teaching skills needed to perform this task successfully. As a result, SMEs often fall into training traps. In this project, the author attempted to solve this problem by designing a PowerPoint presentation of strategies SMEs can use. This presentation addressed the areas of greatest importance to SMEs who are in a training role. The areas this presentation addresses are adult learning, the role SMEs play, and training solutions.

The Use Of Goals To Influence Student Achievement, Dana M. Sorensen

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

"Personal success in life comes from being able to set and achieve realistic positive goals" (Mountain, 1998, p. 1). Even though many people understand the power of goals in their personal lives, typically, goals are ignored in education, and educators miss the chance to harness the power of goals to increase student achievement. It takes a conscious effort to establish, assess, and keep the language of the goals in the forefront of academic discussions during the year. Teachers must be able to have difficult conversations and focus on student learning and as Reeves (2004a) stated: "no teacher or staff member …

Examining The Effectiveness Of Computer Animations As A Tool In Teaching High School Introductory Chemistry, Carl G. Bailey Jan 2007

Examining The Effectiveness Of Computer Animations As A Tool In Teaching High School Introductory Chemistry, Carl G. Bailey

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Computer animations may provide educators with a viable way to address chemistry's abstract nature. Current research suggests that students benefit from even short exposure to computer animations of molecular events. This applied study examined the potential benefit of using computer animations to enhance traditional teaching techniques. Two groups of students, one taught with computer animations and one taught without computer animations, completed the same assessments. Statistical analysis of the assessments provides evidence that the use of computer animations leads to improved student comprehension of microscopic processes and their relationship to macroscopic phenomena occurring in gases.
