Teachers’ Learning Of Fraction Division With Area Models, Michael Leitch
Teachers’ Learning Of Fraction Division With Area Models, Michael Leitch
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Research shows that fractions concepts play an essential role in the learning of later mathematics. However, fractions are notoriously difficult to learn and difficult to teach. Division with fractions is a frequent subject in mathematics education research because division is the most conceptually difficult of the four basic arithmetic operations and rational numbers are the most conceptually difficult numbers in K-12 mathematics curricula.

High School Students' Views Of Science In A University Science Internship With Cogenerative Dialogues, Gabriel M. Hayes
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this Thesis is to determine how participation in long term university science internships affect nature of science (NOS) conceptual change in high school students. The study was conducted on high school students who volunteered to participate in a seven month university science internship in west Texas. Student views of NOS were measured by pre- and post-internship interviews using five questions about NOS. Internship and no internship student responses were qualitatively analyzed to show change in views of NOS. Findings indicated that participation in long term science internships with cogenerative dialogues improved students conceptualizations of the social dimensions …

Overcoming Misconceptions In Religious Education: The Effects Of Text Structure And Topic Interest On Conceptual Change, Seth J. King
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study quantitatively investigated refutation text’s power for conceptual change in Latter-day Saint religious doctrines. The study also examined religious interest levels. Participants for this study were 9th-, 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade seminary students from the private religious educational system of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Results of the study showed significant differences in conceptual change between participants’ reading refutation texts and those reading expository texts. Refutation texts significantly increased the likelihood of conceptual change when compared to expository texts. Results also showed participant preference toward refutation text …
