This study explored lived experiences of Somali immigrant students as they studied at a community college in Minnesota. Although, many Somalis are pursuing educational opportunities in MN community colleges. Little research is available on their community college experiences. The aim of this study was to extend the limited research on Somali immigrant students by providing valuable information regarding their community college experiences. A qualitative study design with a phenomenological approach was employed to examine the lived experiences of six students who participated in semi-structured focus group and individual interviews. Since 2009, the largest group of international students in the United States has been Chinese students (Open Doors, 2020). The Relevance Of Ethnic Identity Among Asian American Populations To Support For The Black Lives Matter Movement, Jenna Navaratnam

This study examined the association between ethnic identity and support for the Black Lives Matter Movement among Asian Americans. A total of 112 Asian American participants completed measures of ethnic identity, political ideology, and support for the Black Lives Matter Movement. Statistical analyses showed moderate levels of ethnic identity among the Asian American populations sampled. Also, participants’ level of ethnic identity was not significantly related to support for the Black Lives Matter Movement. Immigrant Haitian parents experience acculturative stress when adjusting to the norms and expectations of a new country. Acculturative stress may be exacerbated if their adolescent children display unfamiliar behaviors, which may result in a greater need for psychological assessments and education programs to mitigate the instances of family breakdown. This qualitative study explored the impediments, social adjustments challenges, and classroom experiences of F-1 international students enrolled at community colleges in the Midwest region of the United States with at least one semester completed after their arrival. Through their respective accounts, the participants shared their positive and negative experiences about their respective host environments, struggles and challenges, acculturation, perseverance, and triumphs. The assertions and themes produced from the analysis of participant interviews provided salient insights into the experiences of the selected F-1 international students.
