The lack of academic success of the U.S. adolescents and wide achievement gap have become a persistent problem of the United States. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the reading achievement of color blind children at the end of the first-grade in five randomly selected Albuquerque Public Elementary Schools to determine if there are any significant differences in their reading achievement and that of color vision children with similar I.Q. scores and to find if there is a relationship between this defect of vision and reading achievement.

The purpose of this study was (1) to aid in developing oral language patterns essential for better understandings of some common concepts in English; (2) to provide seven field trips from rural to urban communities for stimulating first-hand experiences; (3) to couple these trips with an extensive use of related audio-visual materials for immediate reinforcement learning; (4) to originate oral dialogue in English for classroom practices before and after each excursion; and (5) to test the significance of the gains made in use of English.

The purpose of this study was two-fold; first, to record Southwestern Indian folk tales from primary sources to use as supplementary reading in the social studies for the age group from eight to twelve years; second, to edit the tales in order to make them readable and meaningful for this group.

The present study contains adaptations of tales from their primary sources. The form and language of the tales varies from that which characterizes the original version only enough to improve their readability.

The problem of this study is to show how the present methods of teaching reading in the public elementary schools of Albuquerque, New Mexico, have developed. It is proposed to try to trace the changes in aims, methods, and materials in the teaching of reading in these schools from their establishment in 1891 to the present time, 1947. The result should give the reader a story of the historical development of the teaching of reading in this particular school system.
