Learning to Code Music is a supplemental unit developed for high school computer science. This unit was developed after researching the effects of biases in curriculum, effective teaching, and incorporating the arts into coding. This supplemental unit is intended to be used with one of the Computer Science Principles curriculum approved by the College Board and explained in the literature review. It is my goal to have other teachers and myself to use this supplemental unit in their high school computer science courses. Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts Division of Music will present its annual Faculty Showcase Recital on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The recital, which will be held in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus, is free and open to the public.

Designed as a musical celebration in which faculty and collaborative pianists demonstrate their love for music and performance, the recital will feature faculty members from the three areas of Ouachita’s music program: instrumental, piano and voice.

Music is essential in developing the young brain, particularly skills relating to concentration, filtering, information retrieval, verbal competencies, mental visualisation, problem solving, empathy and personal expression. With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum and its adoption as the basis of the Western Australian P-10 music syllabus, there is cause to reflect on the effectiveness of music provision within teacher education courses and pre-service generalist teachers' abilities to deliver the new music syllabus.
