Teachers Attitudes Toward Students Learning At Higher Levels: A Challenge To Kera?, Kimberly Rager Nov 1995

Teachers Attitudes Toward Students Learning At Higher Levels: A Challenge To Kera?, Kimberly Rager

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

"Teachers' Attitudes Toward Students Learning at High Levels: A Challenge to KERA?" discusses the underlying premise of the Kentucky Education Reform Act that states that all children can learn at high levels. Literature research was conducted from other states as well as from the state of Kentucky. The author distributed surveys in fourteen different schools in four different counties in the state of Kentucky. To clear up some confusion in the minds of educators as well as other citizens, the simple statement should be reworded to state that all children can learn at their highest possible level.

Office of Institutional Effectiveness

Executive Summary: During the 1962-63 academic year, Western participated in a nationwide survey on cheating. In 1993, that survey was recreated and readministered, nationally and at Western, through the auspices of The Center for Academic Integrity--located in the Graduate School of Management at Rutgers University. For the 1993 administration, 302 valid survey forms were obtained from Western students, compared to 54 responses from students in 1962. In both years survey respondents were mostly female (53.7% in 1962 and 63.8% in 1993), and mostly white, non-Hispanic (100% in 1962 and 92.1% in 1993). Most other demographic comparisons of the 1962 and …

Acquaintance Rape, Thomas A. Paulsen Jan 1995

Acquaintance Rape, Thomas A. Paulsen

Graduate Research Papers

Most people associate rape with strangers. More women fear being raped by a stranger than by an acquaintance and authorities are more likely to respond to reports of stranger rape than acquaintance rape (Abbey, 1991). Sexual aggression in dating situations, commonly called date rape or acquaintance rape, is more common and more serious than is often realized. Acquaintance rape occurs when the assailant and the victim know one another and is four times more likely to occur than stranger rape (Warshaw, 1988).

Successful Literacy Passport Test Remediation Strategies For Elementary And Middle School Students: A Research Report, James H. Mcmillan

The purpose of this study was to examine instructional strategies teachers and other school personnel have employed to successfully remediate students who have failed the reading and writing parts of the Virginia Literacy Passport Test (LPT), or the LPT Predictor Test. The intent was to determine if specific approaches seem to work best for different types of students, and if particular materials, teaching strategies, scheduling, and other factors are associated with successful remediation.

A qualitative research design was employed to gather and analyze information related to successful remediation. Classroom and resource teachers who had experience in remediating students who had …

Equitable Access To Education For Young Homeless People, Valerie Harwood, Ruth Phelan Jan 1995

Equitable Access To Education For Young Homeless People, Valerie Harwood, Ruth Phelan

Faculty of Social Sciences - Papers (Archive)

At the National Social Policy Conference in 1995 we were one of a minority of service providers presenting a paper; in fact we found ourselves presenting with one other of this minority at the last session of the conference on Friday afternoon. It was a disappointing time slot and left us pondering the question of how seriously 'policy makers' take the contributions of the people who are at the 'coalface'. We made the decision to present a paper at the conference because we believe the program we initiated is innovative and beneficial to a severely marginalised group of young people. …

Children's Knowledge And Understanding Of Basic Number Facts, Jack Bana, Richard Korbosky Jan 1995

Children's Knowledge And Understanding Of Basic Number Facts, Jack Bana, Richard Korbosky

Research outputs pre 2011

Automatic recall of all the basic number facts is a major objective in primary school mathematics. This is an objective that is not easily attained. Many students have problems acquiring the skills which lead to correct and immediate responses (automatic recall) for all the basic number facts. Knowledge of the basic number facts is essential for undertaking all computation efficiently. These basic facts are defined as 0 + 0 to 9 + 9 for addition and their subtractive opposites; and 0 x 0 to 9 x 9 for multiplication and their inverses in division. This is a total of 390 …

These papers represent the proceedings of the fourth Teaching and Learning Forum conducted in Perth from February 7-9, 1995. Curtin University hosted the first two Forums and we at Edith Cowan University the third and fourth. In 1996 the honour (and the hard work) transfers to Murdoch.

The Forum's objectives were:

• To bring together people in higher education who are interested in practical teaching issues (Lecturers, managers, administrators, students, support, general and technical staff).

• To share ideas, information and practices in a variety of mutually supportive, friendly and co-operative ways.

• To celebrate quality in teaching and learning …
