The Relationship Between Leadership Qualities And Group Collaboration In Third-Grade Students., Vanessa Hernandez

The specific leadership qualities observed for this study were narrowed down to emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill) along with cognitive intelligence and confidence (Goleman, 2004). This exploratory mixed-method required the participants (23 third-grade students) to interact with their peers in a small group setting, with the goal of …

Effects Of Classroom Arrangement And Design On Student On-Task Behavior In A K-2 Classroom, Chelsea Mcmullen

Education Undergraduate Research

This study was conducted on a K-2 classroom, in which the researchers made changes to the classroom, such as desk positioning and wall décor, to see what impacts they have on the students’ on-task behavior. The researchers measured the students’ perceived levels of on-task behavior using a scale that they created. The scale was numbered 1-3; one meaning that, as a whole, the students appeared to not be on-task, two meaning that as a class the students appeared to be somewhat on-task, and three meaning that altogether the students appeared to be fully on-task. The results were measured based on …

Impact Of Chronological Age Differences On The Academic Performance Of Students In A First-Grade Classroom, Astrid I. Rodriguez

Education Undergraduate Research

In this study, the researchers investigated whether chronological age differences had an impact on the academic performance of students in first grade. Twenty-nine (29) first-grade students were assessed and observed. Their teachers also provided data on their performance through interviews and grade reports. Participating students ranged in age from seventy-three (73) to ninety-two (92) months. Performance data was collected for the core subjects of mathematics and reading in both numerical and narrative forms. Data was then analyzed for relevant patterns. Participants were classified as either younger (≤85 months) or older (≥86 months). The younger group showed difficulties in mathematics, while …

In this study, 39 parents and 16 students from an eighth grade classroom were surveyed. Among other things, the parents were questioned about how important they felt it was to do the following: attend extracurricular activities their …

This paper looks at a survey to current teachers to see if outdoor instruction, or outdoor education, is being used in today's society of common core standards. Teachers were asked a series of questions to see how they implement their curriculum with outdoor instruction. Not all educators have access to an outdoor source so outdoor instruction is almost obsolete, if not only used for physical education.

A Comparison Of Stability Balls Versus Chairs In The Classroom: Student Preferences And Effects On Classroom Management, Melissa A. Clayton, Erin Messinger

Education Undergraduate Research

The use of stability balls as chairs in classrooms is becoming more common. There has been a decent amount of research done involving students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and how this disorder affects an individual’s attention and behavior in class. This study looks at a fifth grade classroom and asks the following: How does the use of stability balls as chairs affect the classroom management, and how do the students feel about them? The study is inconclusive as far as behavior goes, but seems to show a student preference in support of using stability balls.

Changes in mannerisms, behavior, character traits, and attention span were logged first in the typical, non-stimulating room, and then logged again using the same twelve children, in the same room, during another week of observation after the addition of visually stimulating decorations. Most children exhibited clear reactions to the visual …

A Study Of Stimulating Versus Non-Stimulating Visuals In A Preschool Classroom, Monic Lindsey

Education Undergraduate Research

The purpose of this research was to determine if there was a correlation between a child’s behavior and visual stimulation in the classroom. This was a qualitative observational study that involved young children ages two and half to four. The study’s purpose was designed to draw a quasi-conclusion that determines whether visual stimuli affect this age range’s behavior and attention span. This study will help teachers and parents recognize how visual stimulation in the classroom modifies a child’s activity. Based on previous investigations, visual stimulation can either have a negative or positive affect on children’s learning and behavior in the …
