The Proof Is In The Pudding – Using Perceived Stress To Measure Short-Term Impact In Initiatives To Enhance Gender Balance In Computing Education, Alina Berry, Sarah Jane Delany
Academic Posters Collection
The problem of gender imbalance in computing higher education has forced academics and professionals to implement a wide range of initiatives. Many initiatives use recruitment or retention numbers as their most obvious evidence of impact. This type of evidence of impact is, however, more resource heavy to obtain, as well as often requires a longitudinal approach. There are many shorter term initiatives that use other ways to measure their success.
First, this poster presents with a review of existing evaluation measures in interventions to recruit and retain women in computing education across the board. Three main groups of evaluation come …

Mentorship Impact: Underrepresentation Of Women In Higher Education Leadership, Janice M. Johnson
Mentorship Impact: Underrepresentation Of Women In Higher Education Leadership, Janice M. Johnson
2020 Projects
Noticeably, women are underrepresented in higher education leadership (Airini et al., 2011; Brock, 2010; Diehl & Dzubinski, 2016; Hannum, Muhly, Shockley-Zalabak & White, 2015; Jones & Palmer, 2011; Smith & Slate 2018). The underrepresentation of women in higher education leadership roles may have an impact on colleges and universities hiring, developing, and retaining excellent and diverse faculty members and therefore excellence and diversity in future leaders. This convergent parallel mixed methods pilot action research study employed a feminist theoretical framework to examine how and to what extent mentorship opportunities affect the career development of women leaders in higher education.

In 2005 Clark, Ayton, Frechette, and Keller (2005) conducted a content analysis study on secondary world history textbooks to determine whether women’s inclusion had increased or decreased between 1960s, 1980s, and 1990s. They reported women’s severe marginalization in the texts even though the percentages of women’s inclusion had increased over the course of the decades. We conducted a replication study of the content analysis performed by Clark et al. from a feminist research lens and analyzed 2000 and 2010 editions of the same textbooks to determine if female inclusion had increased. Our findings revealed that very little to no progress …

Before women had the right to vote in the United States, Mortar Board members were leading their society to prominence across the country.
