Collaborative Model For South Korean Nurses: Education, U.S. Rn Licensure, And Employment, Gail K. Baumlein
Collaborative Model For South Korean Nurses: Education, U.S. Rn Licensure, And Employment, Gail K. Baumlein
Learning Showcase 2014
The purpose of this poster is to describe the collaborative model developed between a private university in the U.S. and constituents in South Korea to facilitate nurses’ attainment of a U.S. registered nurse (RN) license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, and employment in the U.S.
Throughout the world, nurses are being encouraged to increase their educational preparation from an entry level diploma or associate’s degree, to the BSN degree (International Council of Nurses, 2009). In South Korea, the government has recently mandated that nurses attain a BSN degree, and has closed all programs offering only the lower …
Factors That Hinder Underrepresented Minority Adn Students From Initially Pursuing Baccalaureate Nursing Education, Tanika Cherry-Montgomery
Factors That Hinder Underrepresented Minority Adn Students From Initially Pursuing Baccalaureate Nursing Education, Tanika Cherry-Montgomery
Learning Showcase 2014
The lack of minority representation in the nursing profession has been an area of concern for quite some time because of its direct correlation on the health of our nation. However, the lack of minority representation in the nursing workforce and on baccalaureate (BSN) college campuses persists. Students from underrepresented backgrounds comprise 26.6% of entry-level nursing baccalaureate programs (AACN, 2014) and 16.8% of the nursing workforce (HRSA, 2010), yet 32% of the US population is from a racially or ethnically diverse background (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). The numbers of diverse nurses who are in practice pales in comparison to the …

Programs
At its best, a university is a collection of individuals ‐‐ students and faculty ‐‐ focused on learning and discovering new knowledge. For this goal to be realized, a critical element is having faculty members deeply engaged in such discovery within their disciplines. Scholarship, in the form of journal articles, book chapters, monographs and similar endeavors, creative activity which can take an even wider range of forms, and funded research which explores the boundaries of disciplines all contribute to such engagement. Through such participation, faculty members stay at the growing edges of their fields, and in so doing, they enrich …

Supplemental Media: Catalogue, Handlist, Lectures, Events and More
In preparing for Imprints and Impressions, we ran across many interesting words that have fallen out of the general lexicon. With this booklet, we have brought one back: handlist. Dean Kathleen Webb ran across it in a 1944 booklet from the J. Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City. Though the word no longer appears in most new dictionaries, it’s still in the Oxford English Dictionary:
A list of a particular type or category of things, presented in a readily consultable form; esp. a list of the books or manuscripts in a particular place, on a particular subject, etc.; …

2014 Interprofessional Student Advisory Team (IPSAT) Case Competition
Objective: The Interprofessional Student Advisory Team (IPSAT) at the University of New England (UNE) organized its 2nd interprofessional student case competition, modeled after the CLARION competition from the University of Minnesota. Completion of an online certificate in patient safety and quality improvement from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School was added as a pre-requisite to participation in the 2014 competition. Completion of this program was predicted to improve student preparedness and confidence and facilitate interprofessional teamwork during their case preparation.
Conclusions: Survey results indicate an increase in student confidence and preparedness for interprofessional teamwork during the 2014 UNE …

Research Exercise: Ud Iet Dayton Most Metro Chef Ten Question Interview
Research Exercise: Ud Iet Dayton Most Metro Chef Ten Question Interview
Stander Symposium Projects
Dayton Most Metro (DMM) is an online regional magazine which has created a ten question interview with local chefs. Currently 20 chef interviews have been completed and uploaded onto the website. DMM’s goal is to add to the amount of interviews posted online this spring 2014, but has run out of the manpower required to do so. The goal behind incorporating the Dayton IET 323 team is to aid DMM in accomplishing its goal. Our team will be conducting interviews with a minimum of eight Dayton area chefs which will be featured on the Dayton Most Metro site. In the …

A Look At Ohio's Past: A Focus On Ordovician And Silurian Period Fossils Found In The Dayton Area
Stander Symposium Projects
Ohio has a rich geologic history involving the Paleozoic era, specifically the Ordovician and Silurian periods of time for the southwestern part of the state. Ohio was once covered with tropical seas, the evidence for which are the marine fossils found in the limestones, dolomites, and shale rocks in the area. This research project involves a comparison of fossils and geological history of Clifton Gorge, Germantown MetroPark and other parks in the Dayton area. This project also includes a guide for educators on how to engage students through the connection of real world experiences at the high school level using …

Can They Ever Feel At Home?: Saudi Student Experiences In Residence Halls
Stander Symposium Projects
Saudi students are choosing to pursue higher education at institutions in the United States at an accelerated rate. As a result, it is essential that administration develop ways to better serve this population. The residence halls at American institutions provide a unique challenge for Saudi students because of certain elements of their culture including religion, gender dynamics, and more. Currently, there is a lack of research on this particular topic. In a one hour semi-structured interviews, participants reflected on their experience in the residence halls as well as provided suggestions for future programming and physical space. Information collected through this …
