An Act appropriating certain sums for sundry civil expenses for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1898, including, among other things, expenses incurred in connection with the collection of revenue from sales of public lands, protection of public lands, settlement of public lands and swamp-land claims, hearings held by General Land Office to determine whether alleged fraudulent entries had been made in compliance with law, reproducing plats of surveys, and for surveying or resurveying public lands. An act passed on February 11, 1847, by the Twenty-ninth U.S. Congress, Session II, which authorized the military of the United States under the direction of the President to raise and organize additional military forces during the war with Mexico. Further provided for the issuance of certificate or warrant from the war department for the quantity of one hundred and sixty acres to public lands. Option to receive a treasury script for $100 in lieu of certificate or warrant.
