The book shows the struggles the university had in its early years to keep presidents as well as its rapid growth within recent years. The last few pages include collages of photos taken during various stages of several of the presidents' lives.

Josephine Gorby was born on February 24, 1908. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in Wimmer, McDowell County, WV. In 1931 she began teaching in Lawrence County, OH. Mrs. Gorby’s interview focuses on growing up on a farm near Proctorville, OH, her experiences as an educator, her family’s experience during World War I, and the 1937 flood of the Ohio River and its tributaries. Otterbein University celebrated the 60th anniversary of its founding in 1907. As part of the celebration alumnus, former president, and long-serving professor of languages and philosophy (1870-1904) Dr. Henry Garst published the first history of the school, simply titled History of Otterbein University.
