Aboriginal people in Canada are less likely to complete postsecondary education than are non-Aboriginal people. This lack of education leads to increased rates of unemployment and poverty and the need for additional government supports. The purpose of this project study was to identify and examine barriers faced by Canadian Aboriginal adult students as they return to school for postsecondary education. The conceptual framework for this qualitative study was based on the work of Ertmer, which suggests barriers can be placed into broad categories of extrinsic and intrinsic barriers. Private international schools in India are considered by many to be a quality brand. They have grown rapidly leading to competition among schools for student enrollments. The purpose of this case study was to explore the branding strategies used by leaders of Indian private international schools. The study population consisted of private international school leaders in India as well as the faculty and parents from the study site. Several recent studies have critiqued the cognitive science behind single gender education, and social cognitive theory has demonstrated that gender inequality in the classroom may inhibit students' academic achievement. This study examined a single-gender education program for both middle school boys and girls established to remedy academic achievement deficiencies at a public charter school, to be identified as Urban Charter School (UCS), located in an urban area. Research shows that risk factors may be useful clues for predicting students' potential for engaging in weapon-carrying behavior. Parental involvement is integral to promoting a high quality school environment. A lack of parent involvement is a problem that currently exists in an urban, public elementary school in Texas. This issue is important because once the parents increase their engagement, the home school relationship can be improved. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate how pre-kindergarten parents at the study elementary school perceive parent involvement and how principals and teachers at the school can help parents improve their involvement.
