With the sudden growth of distance education at the turn of the century, online offerings of fitness and wellness courses spread quickly across college curriculums. However, the emergence of rigorously designed research regarding the ability of online, concepts-based fitness and wellness classes to significantly improve student health has progressed at a more leisurely pace, leaving stakeholders within higher education unsure of its effectiveness. This study aims to explore faculty’s experiences regarding teaching methods and student-teacher interaction. The interaction between the majority groups and diverse (minority) groups on the college and university campuses needs to be addressed in order for colleges to achieve the universal goal of education for all (Akombo, 2013). Such interactions can be achieved through a curriculum that fosters cultural perspectives within the college communities (Akombo, 2013). El propósito fundamental de este estudio fue el de analizar de manera integral el ámbito educativo a distancia en educación superior, para identificar aquellos factores que han podido influenciar mayoritariamente a estudiantes adultos en instituciones de educación superior públicas y privadas en Colombia que ofrecen programas de educación a distancia, para que éstos tomen la decisión de abandonar los programas en los cuales han estado matriculados. Esta circunstancia afecta igualmente a las respectivas instituciones que están abocadas a encontrar soluciones que una vez implementadas ayuden a resolver el problema que es el objeto de este estudio.
