Innovative Creation Of A Laboratory Exercise: Fluorescent Staining Of Primary Chicken Embryo Fibroblast Culture Using Mitotracker And Hoechst Stains., Dwight Ginn

Primary chicken embryo fibroblast cell cultures have been grown in the Developmental Biology course laboratory for many years. With the acquisition of a fluorescent microscope in the Biological Sciences department, it was possible to create a new laboratory exercise incorporating fluorescent staining of these cells. During the fall 2016 semester, primary chicken embryo fibroblast cell cultures were generated from 14 day old chicken embryos, then grown in EMEM with 10% FBS. Living cells were first treated with MitoTracker Orange CMTMRos that stains the mitochondria fluorescent orange. Beginning teachers are not prepared to meet the social emotional learning (SEL) needs of their students. A course designed to ameliorate this problem has been written and conducted during the fall, 2016 semester among ONU teacher candidates. The Scholar Week Presentation will describe the course’s content and teaching methods, and the results found from evaluating the impact of the course on its nine participants. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to examine the experiences of university faculty expected to implement a teacher performance assessment called edTPA within a teacher preparation program. This study synthesized the experiences university faculty members have when preparing and implementing the edTPA. A deep examination of 12 university faculty members who teach in teacher preparation programs in a Midwestern state where the edTPA is required for licensure offer their experience through a questionnaire, an individual interview, and a focus group interview. Higher educational institutions must demonstrate that their Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students are competent prior to graduation. There are conflicting studies regarding the reliability of field instructor, faculty, and students’ self-assessment. The purpose of this study was to examine the consistency of how field instructors, faculty, and students assessed social work students' competence across three academic years. This study explored priorities for online instructional behavior in post-traditional programs at Private Christian University (PCU).
