Invitational Rhetoric: An Engaged Pedagogy For Technical Communication, Linford Odartey Lamptey
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Many scholars have advocated a breakdown of teachers' authority while agitating for students’ voice and freedom in the classroom. They have proposed several theories to this effect. In this paper, I reflect on how principles of invitational rhetoric, engaged pedagogy and critical pedagogy operate in teaching a technical communicating class. It is to find out how these tend to support or otherwise students’ voices, engagement and agency. To reflect, I adopted and adapted the principles of invitational rhetoric, engaged, and critical pedagogy to topics in technical communication. My reflections reveal that the successful applications of theories cannot be guaranteed. We …
Articulating Digital Archival Practice Within Writing Program Administration: A Theoretical Framework, Amanda Girard
Articulating Digital Archival Practice Within Writing Program Administration: A Theoretical Framework, Amanda Girard
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Throughout Writing Program Administration scholarship there has been a clear call for archivization and archival work. While I recognize that WPAs are not typically identified as “archivists,” I situate the digital archive within the digital humanities as an interdisciplinary, collaborative project and offer suggestions that lead to recommendations for making an institutional archive. I review archival practice in order to justify the digital archive as an appropriate vehicle for WPAs’ work. Further, I argue that the digital …

Changes In Participation And The Deveolopment Of A Learning Community For English Teachers In A Video Club In Albania, Zachary S. Blehm
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
This study investigated a group of English teachers’ interactions watching video of their classrooms, in what is called a video club, for the purpose of professional development. Changes in both what and how teachers discussed, along with how the club developed as a learning community were investigated using recordings of their conversations in two early and two late video club meetings. The focus of what teachers discussed changed from the early to the late meetings and a pattern of discussion emerged in the later meetings. Significant changes in the number of ideas teachers put forth for discussion and the number …

Effects of Applying Student-Centered Techniques in Mathematics Achievement: A Cameroon Case Study
By:
Jomara A. Laboy Rivera
This study investigated the effects of using student-centered techniques in math Form 2 (Eighth Grade) and the relationship among English literacy, Math Literacy, interest in math, study habits, home background and owning the Cameroonian math textbook with mathematical achievement. Data were collected from four different schools in the North West region of Cameroon. The experimental schools (GHS Shisong and GHS Kiyan) used student-centered techniques while the control schools (St. Peters and St. Francis) used teacher–centered techniques. Results showed that there was an improvement …
