The Cultivation Of Transformational Leadership In Secondary School Principals, Christian S. Overstreet Aug 2022

The Cultivation Of Transformational Leadership In Secondary School Principals, Christian S. Overstreet

Dissertations

Due to the challenges schools and school administrators face in the 21st century, transformational leadership is considered the most effective approach to school leadership (Bonsu & Twum-Danso, 2018; Longwell-McKean, 2012; Valentine & Prater, 2011). The purpose of this explanatory, sequential, mixed-methods study was to investigate the importance of cultivating transformational leadership qualities and traits within secondary school principals through professional development opportunities, networking experiences, and mentorships. There has been a lack of research on the need to train in transformational leadership and whether or not it positively influences follower outcomes (Peters, 2014; Tafvelin, 2013; Udin, 2020). Phase one data were …

A Quantitative Study Of The Relationships Among Psychological Safety, Collaborative Capacity, And School Climate In Middle-Level Schools, Karen Brownfield

Dissertations

This quantitative study was conducted to investigate possible relationships between psychological safety, collaborative capacity, and school climate in middle level schools in order to identify specific leadership behaviors to increase collective efficacy. School leaders’ knowledge of the positive effect collective efficacy has on student learning is not enough (Donohoo & Katz, 2019; Parrett & Budge, 2020). Leaders must also be aware of functional behaviors to foster collective efficacy, thus increasing student learning (Donohoo & Katz, 2019). Based on the theoretical work of Bandura (2000, 2012), as well as DeWitt (2017), Garmston and Wellman (2013), Hattie (2017, 2019), and Rock (2013), …

Perceptions Of Trustees And Presidents Of The Competencies Essential For Successful 21st-Century Community College Leadership, Cliff Davis

Dissertations

An imminent wave of community college president retirements is well-documented in the literature, which will likely contribute to a serious leadership void on American community college campuses (American Association of Community Colleges [AACC], 2013; Eddy, 2013). To address this impending leadership crisis, governing boards must focus on how to develop leaders prepared to meet the unique and increasingly complex challenges of community colleges. In keeping with Katz’s (1955) three-skill conceptual framework, the purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and describe trustees’ and presidents’ perceptions about the importance of technical, human, and conceptual competencies to a successful 21st-century community …
