Knowing how technologies impact student engagement and achievement is vital. The present study validated and added to the existing knowledge in determining to what extent specific levels of technology integration impact student engagement. It also addressed how specific levels of technology integration impact student achievement in middle level English Language/Arts and mathematics classrooms using 1:1 tablet technology. The descriptive study with statistical analysis provided quantitative evidence to educational leaders on the extent to which increasing levels of technology integration can increase student engagement. According to Saenz and Ponjuan (2009), “Latino males are effectively vanishing from the American higher education pipeline” (p. 54). Despite a steady increase of Latino students enrolling over the past several decades, the problem remains that Latino male student persistence and completion rates are not keeping up proportionally with other student population groups (Castellanos, Gloria, & Kamimura, 2006). This study was conducted to determine teacher perceptions of cooperative learning strategies affecting the engagement and academic performance levels of English language learners. The purpose of this study was to explore if cooperative learning strategies increase the academic performance of English learners within their English courses. Guided by the theories of Dewey (1938), Vygotsky (1978), and Piaget (1926), which are derived from elements of cognitive, developmental, and democratic theories that focus on the benefits of group discourse, this study examined how communication and collaboration impact academia.
