Borderline students are always the students who seem to go unnoticed in the classroom. The students' reading levels are not high enough to function at grade level and not low enough to get the extra assistance from the Reading Specialist in the assigned building. Often the students are given just enough reading material to keep them busy.

A procedural handbook was developed to describe the standard operating procedures of the three Interim Schools Special Programs within the Seattle Public Schools. The handbook includes chapters on Interim School history, staffing, enrollment and attendance procedures, student rights and responsibilities, official records and forms, testing, curriculum, fiscal matters, emergency procedures, custodial and maintenance procedures, and communications. The resulting handbook provides a readily available file of relevant information and procedures on the operations of the school program.

From this writer's classroom experience, children's reading achievement improves when there is cooperation between teachers and parents. This author felt that a handbook should be developed to help guide them in improving their children's reading. The Significance Of Projecting Enrollment In Determining School District Apportionment Revenue In Washington State For 1979, Charles M. Plesha

The enrollment of the Sunnyside School District for the 1979-80 school year was estimated. This enrollment figure determined the potential staff allocation size, which in turn determined the 3010 apportionment revenues from the state. Revenues, likewise, determined the district's 00, 30 and 97 programs' staff expenditures. Those predictions were made for the general fund budget only. In addition, other revenues received from the state by Sunnyside School District, which effected the 3010 apportionment account, were explained. Actual historical enrollment data of Sunnyside School District No. 201 were utilized to make all projections as meaningful as possible.

Inservice For Elementary Teachers: Activities And Techniques To Motivate Readers, Beverly R. Pontius

The purpose of this study is to provide an inservice course of study for teachers of children in grades one through six. The activities and techniques are designed to motivate children who are below grade level in reading and help them develop an interest in reading in the hope that reading may become a pleasure in their lives.

A Policy Handbook For The Union Gap School District, Gary Fredrick Johnson

This project presents a proposed policy handbook to the board of directors of the Union Gap School District which will replace the present outdated handbook. Prior to writing the new policies, a review was made of educational literature on policy development, the Union Gap School District's board minutes, and surrounding school districts policy handbooks. The policies from the surrounding school districts were categorized according to subject matter, and, utilizing these policies along with a close communication with the school board and the superintendent, new policies were developed that would meet the unique needs of the Union Gap School District.

This project presents a faculty handbook prepared for the staff at Tahoma Junior High School in Maple Valley, Washington, The handbook was designed with two main purposes in mind: 1) to establish two-way communication among staff members as well as staff and administration; and 2) to render the educational process more efficient. The handbook includes fifteen major sections dealing with such topics as duties, rights and responsibilities, school policy and procedures, evaluation, and scheduling. Reading Enrichment Activities For Gifted First, Second, And Third Grade Children, Beverly Staneart Doleac

A teacher's manual of reading enrichment activities was developed for use by reading specialists. The manual contains activities geared towards primary-aged children reading at least two years above grade level. It is divided into four focal units, each based on a different area of children's literature. Bloom's Taxonomy at the higher levels is used to classify the specific learning activities suggested in the focal units. A children's bibliography is included for each unit. Teacher resources on the gifted are also listed.

A Teaching Strategy Using Visual Literacy Skills In Grades Four Through Six, Mark Truman Collins

The purpose of the project was to develop a brief curriculum which would provide classroom activities related to visual literacy. The project was focused on grades four, five, and six. Visual literacy activities were developed to be used as learning experiences to develop specific visual skills. Other activities were also developed to be used as teaching aids in the subject areas of language arts and reading. The lessons were then tested on a limited basis in classroom situations. The results of the tests showed the activities to be functional and motivational.
