At the request of the Bellingham•Whatcom County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Western Washington University Office of Survey Research (OSR) surveyed residents of Whatcom County concerning their perceptions of tourism locally. The OSR conducted 606 telephone interviews during the period April 2 through April 22, 1997. The Convention and Visitors Bureau wished to measure citizen perceptions and knowledge of tourism and to assess what factors lead citizens to be more or less favorable toward tourism. The study is, in this sense, a baseline study of Spring, 1997 perceptions that may change over time. The particular questions asked in this survey …

Though this report will deal mostly with the differences between transfers and native freshmen, their most important similarity should be mentioned first: both cohorts were new to Western; both were expected to confront unfamiliar surroundings and experiences. This basic fact is, from an administrative point of view, also one of extreme importance. The primary reason for the development of the Transitions program and for the continuing use of summer and freshmen orientation programs was to improve the University's efficiency. INTRODUCTION At the request of the new University Librarian, Western's Office of Survey Research and Office of Institutional Assessment and Testing worked with the Library's faculty and staff to conduct a series of surveys focusing on library resources and services. INTRODUCTION Between the end of August and November, 1996, the Western Washington University Office of Survey Research conducted a survey of school principals and superintendents' offices in the Olympic ESD. The survey was initiated by Western Washington University Extended Programs with the goal of exploring the kinds of inservice training needed by science teachers in the Olympic ESD.
