An In-Service Study Of The Language Arts Program For The Ripon Elementary School District, Ernest Martin Azevedo

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Introductory statement. This study represents the development of an in-service program of teaching language arts in the elementary grades and the development of an acceptable scope and plan to be followed in the teaching of language arts in the Ripon Elementary School. A Policy Manual For The Dixon (California) Unified School District, Emer Richard Rott

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

With the exception of metropolitan school systems, it has been only during recent years that districts have felt the need for written board policies. '!'his need was generated by the stimulus of increased population growth and mobility especially since World War II, With growing numbers of children entering school, districts were forced to grow and change to meet the new demands made on them, No longer was it possible to conduct school affairs with the informality characterized by the "little rod schoolhouse".

Increased size and the concomitant problems inherent in delegation of authority and implementation of pollcy throughout the school …

A Laboratory-Centered General Chemistry Course For College Freshmen, Alexander Vavoulis Jan 1962

A Laboratory-Centered General Chemistry Course For College Freshmen, Alexander Vavoulis

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In order to give the laboratory-centered course a trial run and to compare it with a lecture-centered course it seemed necessary to the author that both courses should be taught and compared. The latter gave rise to the following hypotheses:

  1. Students in a laboratory-centered general chemistry course show more favorable attitudes toward chemistry than do students in a lecture-centered course.
  2. Students in a laboratory-centered course show as good a subject-matter mastery as students in a lecture-centered course.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Statement of the problem. This study was carried out to determine: (1) what advantages a laboratory-centered general chemistry course might have over the conventional laboratory course, and (2) whether improved understanding of laboratory work leads to better learning of chemistry. The four following questions were raised in connection with the study or this problem:
